3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (683) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - FEB 12, 2012
First tasted this at the Mossend Beer Festival, Lochwinnoch in July 1993. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear garnet red in colour with a thin white head. Strong vinous note in the short nose. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a digestive biscuit note with dry currant fruit evident. Short hop prickle noted in the short aftertaste. Finish is slightly malty with dry oak cask flavours present. An ok session bitter.

Full pint from cask@Southampton Arms, London. Thin blond head. Body is clear red, with a brownish hue. Sappy red fruits and peppery, caramelly malts on the nose. Taste is fruity, like light acidulous apples. Moderate malty, lightly toasted and dry. Light-bodied and easy on the palate. Noticable bitter endnotes.

Cask (Olutkellari, Helsinki)
Pleasant enough ale aroma. Deep orange, small head. Sludgy ale taste - full bodied but without details. Some rich malts, but mushroomy and a bit caramelly. Doesn’t grab me. Anna scribbled "Tastes like shit." on my notes, hoping I’d accidentally include it in the review while typing it in. We aim to please.
