Cask at the Kemble Brewery Inn. Darkest rich copper, light foamy head. Alc and malt, old and heavy. Leather, red juice, grape. Prune. Heavy and strong, banana.

Bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown with basically no head. Deep aromas of sweet malt, dark fruits, toffee and slight roasted grain. Flavours are sweet with just feint bitterness on the finish. Medium mouthfeel.

500ml bottle. Pours a handsome clear copper-ruby, which is spoiled by its almost complete lack of any head, save for a few off-white bubbles around the rim. Aromas of toffee, dried fruit and toast mix on the nose. Mild floral hops blend with sweet spice up front, giving way to caramel and toffee malt in the body. Raisin and fruitcake come through in a fruity finish. A decent enough bitter, but I can’t quite understand why it would win a CAMRA gold medal. Of the huge and often excellent range of bitters out there, I certainly wouldn’t choose this as the best of them.

Amber with a small, off white head. Malty with fruity notes. Malt, fruit and hops. Medium body with a bitter after taste.

Cask at the GBBF 2011. Amber with a small off-white head. Fruity aroma with caramel and toffee. Sweet malty flavour with a bit of bready character and a hint of roasted malt.

Cask @ O’hara’s, Tampere.
Pours clear dark red colour with no head. Aroma is berries, mild fruits and malts. Flavour is pretty much the same. Not as bad as I expected.

Clear mahogany colour with tiny tan head. Wood, nuts and dry floral hops in aroma. Floral hops, dry wood, malt and nuts in dry flavour. Thin.

Pours a mahogany colour with a small white head. Aroma of nutty malts, grass and caramel. Flavour of toasted nutty malts, weak spices, caramel and grassy hops. Medium bodied with a nice malty finish. Good.
