COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Molson Brewmasters have created a new standard in smoothness with Molson Golden. Each batch is brewed with pure spring water and features a unique two part hopping procedure. Galena hop essences are added in the brewing kettle, followed by the addition of a patented, mild hop after fermentation.

Certain parts of Canada are enjoying a craft beer renaissance both new and old. Unfortunately, most of what everyone knows of Canadian beer revolves around the macro light lager variety such as the Molson Brewery, specifically their Golden. Ah yes, let the mediocrity begin. Oh, and did I mention she came in a green bottle. Awesome, I know.

Clear and light straw in color, a feeble white head dies a quiet unassuming death above a steady stream of carbonation. His nose reaches for me from my tasting cup, all 6ozs worth with the rest already vacated down my kitchen sink. There is no skunk despite the green bottle. Lemon, rice, and blanched straw are drowning in a vat of water while lemon-lime adds a bit of citric sweetness. Sniff once and he is gone. Sniff twice and you wonder if he was even there the first time or if your mind was playing tricks. My first tasting quaff is bright in the front with lemon ice which leads me into cloying sweet rolls. No finish except for a sense of cold wetness that I can get with water which tastes better. Want lemon? Add a fresh lemon wedge for double the water refreshment. Those cloyingly sweet dinner rolls find their way to the vat of water where they turn into an unpleasant soggy bread taste atop my tongue. Bleh. The soggy bready sweetness is very at odds with the barely enjoyable lemon freshness. If there is to be a victor in this tasting excursion, myself specifically, the tasting must stop immediately.

I’ll say it again: blech. If I want good Canadian beer, Molson will most certainly never be its name.

Not that good, overly carbonated, watery mouthfeel, faint taste of hops, some what skunky aroma. Dare I say I like regular Molson Canadian Better. This is refreshing on a hot day, but not much else.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2010 This isn’t too bad, but it’s nothing good either. Just another generic tasting pale lager

Another really bland beer, which is hardly distinguishable from many of their other beers. Light gold color.

Brown color, classic american beer. Technically this expired six months ago but I’m pretty sure that it just adds to the flavor. No head to speak of. Not bad.. not too great but also not bad.

12 oz. green bottle. 50¢ loose @ Binny’s. Another cheap, loose megabeer with lots of skunk under the cap. Skunk persists after pouring. Pale gold color, kicks up a big rocky head. Taste to start is at least bearable, but the oxidation stays in the nose. Fizzy and gaseous. Not quite malt in this, but some bitterness. I’m just not sure what this is. Some sweetness at the end.

Pours a pale yellow straw in the glass. Nose and taste are corn, cereals and slight bitter. Not very good. Rated 1/13/2000

5/10/10. 12oz bottle into a pint glass. I’m glad I’ve decided to stop trying new pale lagers until it’s off the top of my list, because this is a horrible, diacetyl, appley, skunky mess. Don’t even bother with it.
