Courtesy SoLan. Pours a cloudy, dark orange-brown color. A foamy, beige colored head leaves foamy flares and spots of lacing behind. The nose shows lightly smoked caramel malts, winter time conifer forest notes, and some musty yeast. Flavors continue the theme, with caramel malts and some salty smoke notes laying the groundwork for light, sprucy, minty hops to play their balancing role. Finishes with a very faint, lingering smokiness. The palate is medium in stature, smooth, and quite quaffable. This is a pretty unique brew, and one that I’d easily revisit.

Jun 11, 2008 Bottle @ Maria tasting. Amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is smoked, hop, caramel. Flavour is hop, caramel, smoked. A little bit unharmonic, but still a tasteful beer.

May 26, 2008 Bottle. Hazy, amber body with a dense beige head. Smoked, toffeeish nose with a spicy, herbal touch. Smoked and toffeeish flavor too, quite sweet, and it gets a little herbal towards the finish. There’s a slight sourness as well, the kind of sourness you get from a dying bonfire. Full bodied. A rather unusual beer, quite tasteful, but I think a bottle would be enough. (080412)

May 18, 2008 Courtesy SoLan. Cloudy dark copper color with a thin off-white head. Smoke and grain on the aroma, not real meaty, just a hint of smoke. Smooth smoky taste, some residual sweetness, clean lager finish. Pretty straightforward and tasty bock.

Unclear medium amber color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, smoke and caramel. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (120408)
