goozen (740), Leiden, Netherlands Jan 23, 2008 Bottle at PRZH, Winterbierfestival, Gouda: Dark brown coloured beer with an special ingredient of sweet chestnut thats get the beer fine special sweet taste. bierkoning (4716), La Tropica, Netherlands Dec 3, 2007 Bottle. Lightly smoked, somewhat sugary aroma with hints of chestnut. Sweet, malty, almost sugary flavor. Lightly smoked with peach and plums. Hint of chestnut. A late flowery hopbitterness that lingers on in the long aftertaste. Very well balanced, both smoky and fruity ale. MiP (4951), Flensburg, Germany Apr 25, 2008 Bottle, 8.5%. The aroma is quite metallic, takes a while to waft off. Hazy chestnut colour. Semi-stable light brown head. The flavour starts off nicely and distinctly roasted, then turns smoky and finally vinous. Perhaps a bit too fruity for my liking. High carbonation. thebeertourist (1786), Oslo, Norway Dec 18, 2007 On tap at ’t Arendsnest. Dark bronze with a healthy head. Sweet, perfumey aroma. Sweet caramel flavours, some chewing-gum, but with offsetting bitterness. Quite nice. thewolf (3608), Kolding, Denmark Aug 13, 2008 Bottle. [thank you, bierkoning]
Pours a deep orange-brown with a medium, frothy, yellowish head. Aroma has notes of sweet oranges, hazelnuts and a slight smoky note. Quite sweet actually. High carbonation, okay mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet at first, lots of hazelnuts notes. Some hoppiness before a powerful smokiness hits in well. Lightly warming.
