Bottle, from Budgens, at JF’s Calcutta Cup mini tasting - 02/02/13. Extreme dark mahogony brown approaching light black with a thin tan head that clears to the edge. Nose is big on roast malts, liqourice, burnt toffee, nutty tones. Taste comprises roast malts, milk chocolate, biscuit, liqourice, nutty. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, dryish in the finish. A decent solid enough porter.

Bottle from deeside drinks emporium. Pours a black with a light brown head which hangs about. Lovely chocolatey aromas with coffee and caramel notes. The taste is very similar with stronger coffee flavours to chocolate which leaves a fine roasted malt linger. Very nice porter.

Cask - Dark roast and bittersweet chocolate. Jet black with a good beige head. Dark chocolate with a very light bitterness. More sweet dark chocolates than anything else. Pretty nice.

from a shop in London - Very dark brown with a beige foam left, fairly roasted aroma of mocha and tar, a respectable malt body, subtle carbonation and with some sweetness, a late but fair tart earthy bitterness, quite dry and long roasted coffeish aftertaste with hints of vanilla and caramel

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour late awakening and simultaneously diminishing, eventually small, frothy, minimally lacing, tan head. Chocolately dark malty aroma that can’t deny its grainy origin, some coffee and caramel, all with grainy residues, some husk. Taste is slightly bitter and roasty dark malty, hints of coffee surrogate, dark chocolate, some hay; soft carbonation, fluffy palate.

500ml bottle, pours black with no head, cocoa and a little coffee on the nose, initially sweet then with a sour-cherry tartness coming through, treacle and a little chocolate, burnt bitterness. hint of liquorice.
