Quite different. Pours slightly hazy and ruby in colour. Aroma is slight, but the palate is an odd mix of new world hops in the background and roasty caramel malt. Leaves a nice bitterness, and the alcohol makes this palatable. Anything lighter, and it would have been a difficult pint.

500ml bottle from Oddbins at London Bridge. Deep ruby colour clear, with lasting dark beige head. Aroma of fruity malt. It’s a little earthy. Not huge spicyness from the rye. Maybe a bit too cold out of the fridge. Fine. Some decent malty flavours. Not a massive finish. Fades a bit.

Cask conditioned handpump Southampton Arms London 04/03/13. A murky dark brown coloured beer with an off-white wisp of head. Chocolate and woodiness to the fore. Sweet hints in the mouth but loys of barley. A short finish. Almost spicy. Interesting.
