A roasty scotch ale with a hint of smoke. Full-bodied, but not overpowering. Smokey, but not in a creepy bar kind of way. Sweet, but not obnoxiously so. Sound like your ideal mother-in-law? Fair enough, but it also is a pretty dead-on description of our Scotch Ale. In a difficult hop-growing climate, Scottish brewers relied on other ingredients to impart flavor and bitterness – one such ingredient was smoked malt. Drafty Kilt is a dark, malty bombshell of a beer.

Brewed at Thomas Creek before the brewery opened.

Atlanta, Ga - Dantanna’s - Buckhead - on tap. Dark brown pour, off-white head, nice thick lacing. Aroma has some peat-like accents, a hint of chocolate, some licorice. Flavor has some toffee notes, a bit of chocolate, a hint of licorice and has a smoky back end. Mouthfeel is thick and rich. Pretty solid.

Good brew. Not really my style as this one is smokey. Good pour, aroma is sweet and that of caramel. Overall pretty good.

Light aroma. Flavor is not that way. This is a creamy, full-bodied beer with a deep flavor of roasted malt, a slight hint of peat, and milk chocolate.

12oz bottle. Aroma is dark malt with some roast. Appearance is a very dark brown with a creamy tan head. Taste starts kinda scotchy, then then comes in some caramel malt flavor then the roast kicks in with a little smokiness added in. Palate is dry and not too heavy for a scotch ale. Overall, a well done beer. Would love to buy more of this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2013 Bottle. Pours clear ruby, small tan head, good lacing. Aroma is caramel, hay, toffee, a bit of bathroom. Flavor is the same (minus the bathroom, thank God), medium sweet and very malty, light grassy bitter. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. Not bad for the style.

Tasted on tap at Taco Mac in a snifter glass. It poured a deep copper colour with persistent beige foam and lace. Malty, caramelly, very peaty but not distractingly so. Enough hops to provide a balanced bitterness, but almost none in the aroma, except perhaps a little harmonious pepper spice. Medium-heavy body, low carbonation, full and chewy mouthfeel, lingering fruity, earthy, bittersweet aftertastes. A well-crafted, complex strong ale. A homebrew club turned pro, a cool story and cool beer. Keep up the great work.
