COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A roasty scotch ale with a hint of smoke. Full-bodied, but not overpowering. Smokey, but not in a creepy bar kind of way. Sweet, but not obnoxiously so. Sound like your ideal mother-in-law? Fair enough, but it also is a pretty dead-on description of our Scotch Ale. In a difficult hop-growing climate, Scottish brewers relied on other ingredients to impart flavor and bitterness Ė one such ingredient was smoked malt. Drafty Kilt is a dark, malty bombshell of a beer.

Brewed at Thomas Creek before the brewery opened.

Nice big pillowy head on this dark cola colored Scotch ale. Smoke on the nose as well as caramel. There is some rauch going on here. A touch of caramel as well. Good fizz to it as well to keep the beer moving and not become too cloying.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2014 I think I may need to give this beer another try. I think the rating in my notes may be somewhat low. I think I was in a bit of a work-related stress funk when I wrote them. Pours light black with a tan head. Roasty scent and taste. A touch thin. Bottle - Friendís Birthday Party Yup. Definitely a too low rating. Had it again last night and found it uber-enjoyable. 12 oz bottle pours a dark brown color with a nice white head. Aromas of smoke, roasted malt, caramel. Medium bodied, great malt flavor.

Very deep ruby tinged dark brown with a tan head. Sweet malty brown sugar aroma. The flavor is rich, not overly sweet, nutty. Iím not picking up the smoke of which they speak. But this isnít bad; especially for the malty lovers.

Had this at Six Feet Under in a tulip (thistle). Very fragrant but well rounded bitterness. Impressive, will enjoy again.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2013 April 2013 on tap at the brewery. This beer is a lovely near-black, ruby-brown color; crystal clear with fine highlights. Ample and durable tan hand. The aroma is rather light and fruity compared to the full flavor. The latter features dark roasted malts and more spicy hops than I expected. The higher ABV is well-hidden; drinks like a 5.5% although the alcohol comes through in the nose after warming. Hints of smoke and roasted nuts. Brewery says the grain bill includes "cherrywood-smoked malt, chocolate malt, and roasted barley". Roasted grain, coffee, toffee and a trace of smoke in the aftertaste. No burnt flavors and just wee bit of peat. M: medium-full body; good carbonation. O: a moderately successful Scotch Ale, "Americanized" with a healthy but well-proportioned dose of hops. Unique, perhaps due to the cherrywood-smoked malt.

This beer was surprisingly smooth but with a very nice finish. You can taste the smoke but not too much. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at West Egg. This is a solid scotch ale with a bit more effervescence than I am used too. Grab one if your in ATL.

Growler filled at The Beer Growler in Brookhaven, ATL. Pours a rich creamy-topped reddish copper, soft and full on the palate. Great malt profile and nice bitterness. Almost like an imperial bitter, if that makes any sense at all. A tad sweeter, though, and a subtle hint of peat smoke.
