A roasty scotch ale with a hint of smoke. Full-bodied, but not overpowering. Smokey, but not in a creepy bar kind of way. Sweet, but not obnoxiously so. Sound like your ideal mother-in-law? Fair enough, but it also is a pretty dead-on description of our Scotch Ale. In a difficult hop-growing climate, Scottish brewers relied on other ingredients to impart flavor and bitterness – one such ingredient was smoked malt. Drafty Kilt is a dark, malty bombshell of a beer.

Brewed at Thomas Creek before the brewery opened.

12 oz bottle courtesy of secret santa. Thanks. Pours a dark brown color with a big foamy beige head that has excellent retention. The aroma is dark fruits, trace of peat and roasted barley. The taste features toffee, raisins, nuts, ann a bit of brown sugar. The palate is full and creamy and the carbonation is medium. Finishes long and dry. Overall: Very impressive malt bomb

Nice !!!!!!! Pours a beautiful mahogany color with minimal head retention. Aroma is very subtle. Perfect malty butterscotch like taste that lingers in the after taste. A year round offering big IMHO perfect for a late spring or early fall day. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice Scotch Ale. Light brown colored. Sweet, peaty, smoky, roasted malts. Taste has a sweet molasses presence that blends real well. Overall, lighter body than I expected which worked really well. Good stuff.

Bottle... Pours clear, deep and dark with flashes of crimson. The aroma is a malty mingling of milk chocolate, caramel and a slight note of vanilla. Medium-bodied with busy carbonation. The flavor is malty and moderately bitter - unsweetened cocoa and a hint of caramel. Excellently-balanced. Finishes bittersweet - a touch more bitter than sweet. I’m getting no smoke out of this. Thanks to biggsbowler for supplying the bottle!

On tap @ B&D Burgers / Savannah GA --- Clear, very dark ruby brown with a misty head cover, lots of bits and pieces of lace. Taste is roasted malt that stays pure, adding semi-sweet toffee midway through. This nearly turns it sweet, but bitters keep the finish in check. Actually quite good,a solid wee heavy.k

Way to sweet no smokiness. Sweet on tongue almost sick flavor. Not much hop thin head. Light aroma. Flavor is candied sugars. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown/red with a thin filmy khaki colored head. Aroma is mainly smoke, caramel malts, roasted barley and dry hops. Likewise for the flavor.

Pours a dark ruby-brown with a dirty taupe-khaki colored head. Smoky asparagus, ripe fruit, and some caramel on the nose. Full-bodied, gets a bit crisp, and somewhat drying at the finish. Complexity is this scotch ale’s key distinction. Ripe fruit sweetness seems to prevail. Oddly enough, the smokiness doesn’t emerge until late. Vegetable bitterness at the finish. A note or two of chocolate underneath it all.
