COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A roasty scotch ale with a hint of smoke. Full-bodied, but not overpowering. Smokey, but not in a creepy bar kind of way. Sweet, but not obnoxiously so. Sound like your ideal mother-in-law? Fair enough, but it also is a pretty dead-on description of our Scotch Ale. In a difficult hop-growing climate, Scottish brewers relied on other ingredients to impart flavor and bitterness – one such ingredient was smoked malt. Drafty Kilt is a dark, malty bombshell of a beer.

Brewed at Thomas Creek before the brewery opened.

On tap at Ale Yeah! In Roswell, GA. Smoke flavor is mild enough to be enjoyable. Full, round, flavorful.

This beer was surprisingly smooth but with a very nice finish. You can taste the smoke but not too much. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Comes out of the tap a barely transparent chocolate brown with a fine-bubbled light tan head. Rich, malty, chocolaty and spicy aroma invites a taste. Mouth-filling malty flavor has a spicy undertone and hints of chocolate and toffee. Strongly tingly texture leaves a persistent fizz behind.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a quickly dissapating head. Aroma of roasted malts and smoke. Taste is sweet roasty malts with a light smokey taste throughout. Loads of malts. Nice slightly bitter finish to wrap up the awesome malty sweetness of this ale.

Appearance: Slips from the growler a very dark ruby-hued body with a smallish, faintly beige-tinged head.

Smell: Sweetish aroma of dark brown sugar, caramel, toasty malts, and ripe plums, with a teensy sniff of well-applied smoke and an appeased roasty accent.

Taste: A deep, welcoming maltiness, from brown sugar to toasted malt to caramel, with a hint of darkened barley. Touch of dark fruitiness akin to a bit of fresh plum. Thin sliver of clean smokiness. Low earthiness and a subtle herbal hint to the hops, with a subdued bitterness, leaving it fairly sweet throughout, though not cloying. A further hint of fruit, some very faint alcoholic heat, and still a deep sweetness on the smooth finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium-light carbonation.

Overall: A quality scotch ale. It’s got an inviting richness to it without being bloated and enough soothing alcohol without being boozy or putting me in a coma for the evening. Yes, it’s fair to say I enjoyed it.

Growler from GrowlerTown (Hop City). Very nice Reddish-brown color. Light tan head, quickly diminished. Aroma of sweet toasted malt. Roasted barley flavor, nice touch of smoke. Smoke character adds just the right amount of balance to the sweet roasty malt backbone of this brew. Very nice. Overall, a bit too heavy bodied to be sessionable, although I’d grab it in a second if I found it on tap in a restaurant.

Dark brown with a light tan head, aroma is roasted malt and slight mustiness. Flavor is sweet with a hint of caramel. Big roasted malt body with a slight bitter aftertaste. Really enjoyed this, looking forward to see what else these guys have to offer.

On tap at Wild Wings. Poured a deep black-brown with a thin head. Dark toasty scotch ale. Good mouth feel.
