A crisp, drinkable IPA. The earthy deliciousness of Cascade and Simcoe hops, combined with upfront malt flavor, and balanced with a pirate’s sensibilities. Our Eye Patch Ale is a uniquely drinkable take on the American IPA – sweet caramel, citrusy flowers and swashbuckling adventure abound with every pint.

Brewed at Thomas Creek before the brewery opened.

More of a pale ale than a ipa. not too much hop or malt depth to it, would be rather bored if attempted to have more than one. pretty weak but it still is drinkable.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2015 12oz bottle, purchased from Habersham in Savannah on 2/23/15. Completely hazy amber color. Bigger off-white kind of airy head. Leaves good reaches of lace. Lots of pale particles in the body. First sip impression: brett infection. Tastes bright, citrusy, tart and spicy, in a brett way. Very dry taste, chalky finish. Bigger bitter taste, sort of astringent. Light to moderate sweet. Moderate tart. Medium body. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. Very lightly slick texture, finishes dry. Besides some mild caramel malt and a touch of grapefruit/floral/spicy hop, I can’t really get anything besides the brett (not in a good way). Very dusty-tasting too, some metallic; definitely does not taste fresh. Pretty harsh; hard to drink. Unfortunate, as I really enjoyed the Blind Pirate and had high hopes for this IPA. This potentially could been avoided if the brewery dated their bottles. I got as far as I could, then dumped the rest down the drain.

Bottle from Steve out of his Christmas present. Thanks! Orange pour, some head. Sweet fruity aroma with some pine and some malty sweetness. Taste has sweet fruits, tangy pine and a decent caramel backbone. A bit lighter than expected. Solid and fairly tasty offering. 13.9

Transfer from BA review on 3-29-14- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a medium golden amber color with a tiny white fizzy head. The head fades very fast leaving a bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is mainly of a sweeter smell being a mix of caramel, toffee, and some tropical fruits of mango and papaya. There is only a very light level of hop smell in this one, with just a hint of grapefruit and herbal hop. With a little bit of a doughy smell the aroma is overall very fruity and sweet. Taste – The taste begins with a doughty and bready flavor mixed with some hop of a grapefruit nature as well as some sweetness of a caramel and tropical fruit flavor. These flavors remain relatively constant throughout the taste with only the tropical fruit flavors getting slightly stronger as the taste moves on to the end. Some more hop flavors of an earthy and pine nature come to the tongue more toward the end of the taste and with the increase in the tropical fruits and all the other flavors that acted as a base for the flavor profile, it ends leaving a sweet and more lightly hopped (for an IPA) flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is actually rather thick and chewy for a brew of only 6.2 % abv with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. For the lighter hop flavors, the thinner carbonation and thicker body actually were quite nice as they accentuated these lighter flavors in comparison to the sweeter and beadier flavors of the brew; giving it a more IPA like quality than it otherwise would have had. Overall – While a bit light in the hop profile for an IPA, the flavors all melded rather well together and made for an easy drinking brew. For the style not really appropriate overall, it should be labeled as an APA as this would be a great drinking brew for that style.
