grant (741), Martinez, California, USA Mar 27, 2008 Dark caramel color with fairly profuse head. Aroma doesn’t exhibit much of whatever darker malts give the beers its color - I get mostly sticky dough and a bit of corniness, light coconut. The malt aroma here is actually quite strong. Flavor is sweet and doughy like the flavor with a strong, undefined maltiness/nuttiness. I suppose this might be the palm nuts, but that may well be the power of suggestion. There’s some light tartness and odd herbaceousness going on this beer as well. Light bitterness rounds it out - this is pretty sweet stuff overall. I don’t know about the palm nuts, but I view this as a kind-of-weird amber ale rather than something vastly "different", although there are some lager characteristics as well. You don’t get a ton for what you pay for ($2.79 / 12 oz.).
Borresteijn (105), Amstelveen, Netherlands Jul 17, 2008 Bottle. Amber coloured, big white head. Sweet aroma, bit nutty, some banana and coconut. Rather sweet, but also some sourness, a bit fruity. A bit like a sweet tripel. thewolf (3392), Kolding, Denmark Jun 20, 2008 Bottle, bought @ Bjergtrolden, Roskilde.
Pours hazy amber with a fine, creamy, off-white head. Good duration. Lots of rather large floaties. Mild aroma, rather sweet, some nuttiness and coconut. Fine, lightly creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit sharp in alcohol, sweet, lightly roasted with clear yeast definition. Not excatly bad, just a bit too harsh. KimJohansen (2460), Copenhagen V, Denmark May 12, 2008 Deep amber with medium off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with ripe fruits, nutty and caramel notes.
