COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smoked Brown. Collaboration with Monkey Paw.
Ashes From the Grave has risen! Ashes From the Grave is a full bodied, rich, smoky, and chocolaty brown ale. The beer pours with a creamy chocolate head, and kicks off aromas of chocolate, biscuit, sweet smoke, and caramel. The flavor is big, bready, and the mouthfeel is round and luscious. This beer was a collaboration with Bill Batten from Alesmith, and we couldn’t love this beer more. Stay tuned next year for the sequel, Monkey From the Crypt!

Keg at Monkey Paw, SD, 12/11/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a moderate tan covering. Nose is light roast, smokey tones, liqourice, tobacco. Taste comprises dark fruit notes, dark toffee, cocoa rub, earthy, light smoke. Medium + bosy, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok brown if a little sweet and cloying at times.

Had on tap at Monkey Paw in San Diego. Pours is dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is slight coffee. Flavor follows with roasted malt dark coffee. Finishes pretty dry. Nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

19 Nov 2014, tap at Monkey Paw. scarlet/brown. nose is dark toast, very roasted malt. med body and moderately fizzy. faintly sugary malt, toasted flavor is almost bitter, mildly bitter chocolate.

Pours a dark brown-black with a one finger tan head with nice lacing. Aroma is of smoked roasted malts, dark coco, coffee, molasses, caramel, some woody notes, and some light smoked meat notes. Taste is smoky roasted and toasted malts, bakers coco, coffee, woody notes, molasses, sweet malts, and a light ashy note. Has a medium body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, slightly bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a tasty and complex smoked brown that is quite unique.

Draft at Hamilton’s Tavern. Pours dark, dark brown with a half inch of khaki foam that doesn’t leave much lacing. Big smoked malt notes on the nose which suggest bacony pork. Kind of sweet and mapleish on the tongue. Coats the tongue nicely. Nice!

On tap @ Alesmith. Pours dark brown with a thin mocha head. Aroma is burnt roasted malts, dark bitter chocolate and faint smoke. Taste is the same with the smoke lasting on the end. Medium bodied, good balance, and decent carbonation. Not my favorite style, but a good beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of lots of burnt toasted malt, dark chocolate, smoke, and meat. Taste is lighter, of burnt toasted malt, dark chocolate, and a hint of smoke. Lingering burnt smoke flavors. Very nice brown ale.

Draft at the brewery. Dark brown pour, with a light tan head. Toasted bread, sweetness, smoke, nuts, gritty coffee, and light chocolate. Very nice brown ale.
