COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Monkey Stones is a collaboration between Monkey Paw and brewer Jeremy Moynier from Stone Brewing Company. After some discussion, we decided to make a black lager, with a bit of Stone flair. This is a strong, 7.7%, black, toasty beer with attitude. Roast, toasted almonds, and a pine-filled hop aroma are first on the nose. As the beer warms up, you notice a lot of chocolate and orange, with a solid hop bite. The taste is similar, but smooth, hoppy, and delicious. This is not your typical black lager. Dark brown in color with a creamy, dense khaki head. A moderate hoppiness to the nose with strong roasted malt and coffee aromas. A hint of licorice and dark chocolate, maybe some molasses. The hop character is a bit herbal and piney. Quite a bit of roasted malt and coffee notes on the palate with a moderate bitterness. Herbal and pine hop flavors, a bit of citrus peel, and cocoa. Nice mouthfeel, too.

On tap. Pours with a very deep, opaque brown hued body with a large tan head that shows both good retention and very good lace. Aromas are of powdered chocolate, earthy, nutty, acorns, almonds. Medium hops, citrus, spicy, pine and grass. Clean fermentation character. Flavors are earthy, chocolate, acorn, nutty. Medium hops, dry and clean, low sulfur, walnut, almond, earthy malt with a light spice. Medium carbonation, medium to medium low bodied.
