3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours blonde with a thick beige head and a bread and citrus aroma. The substantial pale malt base is paled ha ha in comparison to the accompanying hop bitterness.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On my flight of beers at the brewpub on 18th March 2014. Light haze to the pale but deep old gold coloured brew, not much of a head, but plenty of nose! Citrusy hop front with a mini-floral hint or two: no maltiness in the smell or taste, this is for hop minded people. OK and a nice balance to the three other house brews I had along side it.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap in San Diego (CA)
Sadly this was not at draft at Monkey Paw so I had to go elsewhere to get a pour of a world class IPA / American Pale Ale. Whatever you try to pigeonhole it as the result is a great beer that bucks the normal expectations for a West Coast hop bomb.
Aroma / Appearance - A yellowy warm presence imbues the beer with a playful personality like rays of sunshine filtering through the trees. Sweet citrus, lemon, yeast, and bread dough starter rise up to grab your attention but this does not hit you hard with hops like many local IPAs try to do.
Flavor / Palate - A creamy full bodied mouthfeel slowly provides a warmth that radiates from the tongue outwards. The burst of lemon butter on toasted whole wheat bread continues to please until the bitter finish, paired with a strong maltiness, leaves you wishing you had more than just a generous sample. If Monkey Paw ever gets around to canning like Modern Times I could see them having a huge success with this one.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Had at GABF 2013. Unreal great non IPA but never the less it is an IPA in its purest sense. Unlike most IPAs that I shy away from this has a multy dimension of hops from aroma to mouthfeel to finish. Balanced IPA sounds strange but this s not you typical IPA that folks shove tons of Citra at you. Great great great!
