LIVE WIRE IS ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC BARS IN SAN DIEGO. THEY TURNED 20 THIS YEAR, AND WE MADE THEM A BEER. BLACK, WITH A BIG TAN HEAD THAT FADES INTO BEAUTIFUL LACING. THE AROMA IS SWEET, CARAMEL, CHOCOLATE, AND ROAST. THE FLAVOR IS CARAMEL, ROAST, EVENLY BALANCED COFFEE, AND A CHOCOLATE/CARAMEL FINISH THAT ALL COMES WITH A NICE FULL MOUTHFEEL. THE BEER WAS MADE WITH 55 POUNDS OF DULCE DE LECHE AND 5 POUNDS OF SELECT COFFEE BEANS FROM RYAN BROTHERS.

It pours an opaque very dark brown. But, it’s dark in here in the Small Bar in central San Diego. Poured in an 11 oz. tulip glass because this sissy wasn’t trying to drink too much before his big brewery tour tomorrow. The light mocha head attenuates relatively quickly, but leaves spider web patterns on the edge of the glass. Pungent coffee on the nose. Wow! Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with adequate creaminess for the style. There’s a lot of sweetness to this beer, but I wouldn’t call it sweet. It’s a caramel macchiato without the creamer. Much, much creamier and fuller than a caramel flavored coffee alone. This one’s a keeper.
