COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
K’n’B Wine Cellars was having an anniversary and we were itching to make a unique beer style called a Gose. A rare style not often seen outside of Germany, the Gose is a soured wheat beer with coriander and salt added. Tart, lemony, a little salty, and very refreshing, Monkey Gose Bananas is a great light wheat beer. 3.7% ABV means you can drink this beer all day long. A great beer for the warmer days of summer.

Slightly cloudy orange pour with a white head. A light malt sweetness, hint of salt, some lemon zest, and a light tartness. Mild straw and grass aromas, some subtle banana, and coriander. The flavor has a nice sourness to it. Some lemon zest, grass, salt, and mild coriander spiciness. A bit of malt sweetness, mild wheat, and banana.

On tap. Pours a muddy and turbid yeasty looking hue. One of the ugliest beers I have ever seen. This was neither the first nor last pour from this keg and it all looked like thick yeast slurry. Aromas of strong apple esters, baby food (gurber’s), mild banana (not sure if it is isoamyl acetate or actual fruit), light brown sugar, lactic yogurt. Almost headache inducingly estery. Flavors are an unappealing mix of salty, exceptionally sharp fruity esters and unripe plantains. Mildly acidic, and extremely yeasty to boot. Lightly acidic and thin mouthfeel. This tastes like baby food. I know these guys make some good beers, but this is absolutely not one of them.

Draft. Straw beer with a whitish head. Tart and salty aroma with grain. Tart, light lemon flavor with light salt. Medium bodied. Tartness and saltiness lingers with lemon and light grain.

Light lemonade and slightly salty flavor, very crisp and easy drinking, but were it not for an extremely minor brine note I’d be convinced this was a Berliner. Draft at Hamiltons.

On tap at Beer Rev. It pours pale yellow with a white head. The aroma has notes of lemons and bread. The flavor is lemons, water, bread and a touch of salt. The finish is very bready. Interesting and well crafted, but not really my thing.

FlacoAlto (3800) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JUL 31, 2012
Sampled on tap at the Brewpub; July 2012
The beer arrives with a hazy, pale, straw-gold color and is topped by a thin, white head. The aroma smells definitively of coriander, and also has a pear / apple fruitiness to it. The nose is really quite interesting, the salt contributes a sort of savory character to this brew that mixes in with the coriander and yeast character. This has some light, tart notes to it in the nose, and this accentuates the fruit character.

The flavor is tart, salty, herbal, and funky in its mix of these somewhat discordant, but not really notes. The finish is quite thin and the beer is only lightly carbonated; the body is light from beginning to end and comes off as being watery, it could really use a spritzy carbonation to support it. The coriander contributes an herbal-earthy flavor and a touch of citrus; the latter being accentuated by the tartness. This has a thin, grainy quality to it, but the wheat does contribute some pale, whole-grain character to this beer, if only just a touch.

This is interesting, perhaps a bit too simplistic, though there is technically a lot going on between the coriander / salt / tart character here. I like that they have made the attempt, even if the beer itself isn’t really quite there for me personally.

Draught at the Brewpub. Pale gold color. Nose of citrus, lactic yogurt. Salty sweet flavor, lemon, yogurt. Decent—crisp enough, though a bit too sweet.

On tap at brewery. Cloudy pale yellow with a fizzy white head. Strong grainy bready aroma and taste with a hint of fruit and a salty wheat bread finish. Not bad.

A nice refreshing summertime beer. Hints of citrus, spice, and salt. Very well done I would recommend a few pints of it.

Tap @ the brewpub. Medium head with medium duration. Color is pale golden. Aroma and taste are yeadt, sour milk, malt and hops. Nice gose.
