COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nothing says the holidays quite like a big, boozy, chocolate, vanilla porter! The vanilla is decidedly subtle but there is no escape from the chocolatey goodness! A quintessential dessert beer and a perfect welcome to the winter! Now you finally know why Santa is able to get through all those chimneys with a smile!

On tap @ Beachwood Brewing. Very dark brown pour with a finger of khaki foam. Nose is heavy on the cocoa powder and coffee. Some mild vanilla, roasted malt, and a light earthy hop aroma. Good sweetness to the flavor, but not overwhelming. Mild bitterness of roast, coffee, and earthy hops. Coffee grounds, cocoa powder, and some hints of vanilla and molasses. Enjoyable.

Draft at the brewpub - San Diego. Pours dark brown with a creamy khaki head that leaves moderate lacing. Burnt malts in the nose, some dry cocoa and coffee grounds. Medium sweet flavor with bitter dark roast bitter coffee, torched wood, well roasted malts, dirt, baking cocoa. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Dry chocolate to finish, some warmth, bitter baking cocoa, earth, espresso, burnt wood. Nice complexity.

Poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a mahogany body supporting a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up malt roastiness, a little bit of dark roasted malts and then not really too much else. Overall sort of a mild aroma. The taste is pretty rich with dark roasted malts, a little bit of molasses, some earthy malts and then sort of burnt malts tossed in there too. It seems to get a touch minerally into the after taste. It also picks up a slight tart red wine like off note from time to time.

On tap at Urge in Poway as part of a Monkey Paw night. 9 brews on tap from them. Pour is a bit light for an imperial porter. Nose is sweet malty and dark roast malt. Taste cold is dark fruit, with bite. As it warms it opens up nicely. Becomes rich and chocolate and boozy. Strong brew.

Draft @ brewpub. Dark pour, thin whispyy head. Coffee and chocolty malt fumes in the nose. Flavors combine malty sweetness with chocolaty and to a lesser extend vanilla undertones. Nicely balanced though potential a touch sweet for me, at least when you’re presenting such sweetness on a porter-body. Good first offering high abv dark beer though...alcohol is completely hidden.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2011 Phone rate. Reddish dark brown, one finger beige, fair creamy retention. Chocolate malts, little cacao and vanilla. Flavor fairly bitter. Detracts from chocolate and vanilla, vanilla esp. light. Not a lot of roast, mod toasted malt. Bitterness peaked at a 6, some hot alcohol. Low carbonation, med full body. OK--I feel that the bitterness didn’t fit well with this beer at all, and the beer couldn’t decide what it wanted to be.
