Following the traditions of Belgian Noel beers, Magnificat is our first offering of a Christmas beer. Like a Belgian-style strong dark or quadruple ale, this dark beer has a rich, silky malt profile of caramel and roasted malts, rye, and oats, and reveals complementary accents of dark stone fruits and spices from our Belgain yeast. And to create that liquid-Christmas experience, the beer is spiced with clover honey, sweet and orange peels, coriander seed, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown pour. Aroma is dark fruit and spices. Flavor is the same as the aroma. Medium body. Enjoyed this one. Well put together and not cloyingly sweet or too heavy in body like a few other Belgian darks I’ve tried.

Bottle at Pre-GBBF Shindig 2015. It pours cloudy deep brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is toasty, coca, caramel, wood, leather, dirt and some spice. The taste is bitter-sweet, toasty, earthy, wood, cocoa, spice, dirt, mild acidity, varnish, leather and dark fruits with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not too bad.

Pre GBBF tasting at Chris and Ruth’s. Another Jan box raid, cheers Fonefan! Clear deep amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is light and smooth, decent fine carbonation. Tangy dark malts, tangy toffee. Something that tastes very much like Dandelion and Burdock! Thin malt cream. Mild cinnamon. Light semi dry finish. Spicy linger. Unusual.

Clear dark amber brown with a one-inch foamy tan and very nice lace. Aromas of toasted malt, grain, citrus, and spices. Taste is similar with roasted malt, citrus and spices prominent. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, minimal carbonation and a winter beer-like spiced finish.

Very nice xmas beer, but honestly a bit predictable on all fronts. It’s big on the spice, and pours a really beautiful dark burgundy red. The usual stuff: cinnamon, nutmeg, and some clove. It’s not too sweet; big malt backbone. Overall, a really nice xmas beer, although the style doesn’t do all that much for me to be honest.
