COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Batch #1. Belgian style Blond Ale with Elderflowers. This “monkish” beer reveals golden hues and puts forward fruity, floral, spicy flavors and aromas. Elderflowers are added to contribute a musty, rose-petal aroma. The smooth beer makes a refreshing complement to meals.
The name: An “oblate” is a person who has devoted his or her life to a monastic way of living but has not taken on full monastic vows. This being our first batch and released beer, it is apt for us to devote the brewery to being “monkish”.

2 June 2013, tap. Yellow, clear, no bubbles. Nose is Belgian yeast, toasted straw, faint coriander. Med body and fizzy. Some Belgian yeast, mild alcohol, weird bitter, medicinal finish. Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The pour is a clear golden color with a tall white head. Lots of banana aroma along with some floral and herbal notes. A little bit of yeast to go along with bread and sweet sugar. Kind of funky, probably from the elderflower. There a strong sweetness and fruitiness of bananas. Some sweetness of sugar and bread, too. Really...interesting.

One of four beers that I tried in the nicely appointed tasting room. Has some honey taste but also a lovely mixture of vanilla and some pepper at the end. Beautifully clear and really nice for a batch 1 on a new system. A little slickness on the tongue but then it finishes dry. A simple Belgian with loads of taste.

On tap at the brewery. Pours with a hazed, golden orange hued body with a lasting white head. Aromas are spicy, earthy, floral, medium phenol, light esters, and light tartness. Flavors are lightly tart, spicy, dry, good dry esters (dried pear, apple), floral, rose water, peppery and dry. Lively bubbles, medium to medium low bitterness. Dry. Really great for a first batch!
