(Spanish: “Dream of Los Angeles”) An experimental beer – based on a recipe from a dream the night before brewday – made for 2012 LA Beer Week using the chosen ingredient of prickly pear. This hazy, ruby-peach colored beer is brewed with a copious amounts of wheat, maize, & honey malt, and an unusually large amount of acidualated (sour) malt. During fermentation the beer is drowned with lots of prickly pear puree which contributes an underlying spicy tartness.

Hazy orange pour with a tall pinkish-white head. Nice fruity nose, some prickly pear, yeast, and sugar. A hint of grass, light apples, a bit of pear, and a hint of banana. Sweet malt flavor. Nice bread and sugar, some nice fruity esters of banana, apple, and pear. A decent prickly pear note, some yeast, and a mild spice note.

Sampled at the L.A. Beer Week Union Station Festival. Nice almost fruit punch aroma. Little bit of a pepper skin taste along with the fruit. The alcohol does make it’s presence felt. Overall nice with some dubbel qualities to it.

On tap. Pours with a hazy, peachy hued body with a lasting white head with good lace and retention. Aromas of prickly pear, sort of watermelon like, tropical fruit. Some ester but relatively clean, some alcohol as well on the nose. Flavors are noticeably tart and quenching. Watermelon, prickly pear, medium acidity, very low alcohol heat, some minerallity. Lively carbonation, very dry finish, lingering fruity prickly pear. Very drinkable, the alcohol is unbelievably well hidden.
