3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Murky bronze appearance with an average size beige head and decent lacing. Rich, grainy aroma highlighted by the rye and accented with resinous hops. Solid malt backbone allows the assorted hop characteristics to shine thru to the aftertaste. Medium to full bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Enjoyable, well made example of the style.

Bottle. Substantial pour of solid amber, thin but frothy head. There’s a firm and thick aroma on this. And, wow, this drinks with some oomph. This is a big-time dish with a meaty grain-heavy backdrop, then finishes off with a ruddy, earthy hop bite. Exceptionally flavorful! (#5435, 2/14/2014)

Tap at Roasthouse Pub. Pours lightly hazy copper with a large, creamy off-white head, medium retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is spicy rye malt, resin, citrus, and pine hops with pineapple esters. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness with light, spicy and earthy rye malt, fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Pours a hazy orange with a large frothy head. Aroma of orange and flowers. Taste is orange/tangerine with a spicy bitter hop presence followed by a butterscotch after taste. Interesting.

Bottle from Perfect Pour. Pours light brown with a thin slightly khaki. A bit of perfumed rye spice note on the nose. Nice rye on the tongue with a hint of citrus. Finish lingers a bit but not in a bad way. Nice.

Amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice rye malt and good use of hops. Loved the beer. I was impressed with this beer at GABF 2012

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2013 In 12oz bottle purchased at the brewery. Slightly reddish copper color. Tangerine hop aroma. Unusual flavor: This is not a hopped-up ryePA a la Bear Republic’s Hop Rod Rye or Green Flash’s Hop Head Red, so it?s not really fair to compare it to them. Instead it’s more in the line of Terrapin’s rye pale ale &c. Considered in that context: The hops provide a cutting tangerine bite and the ryes back them beautifully, giving way to a crisp sweetness. Best rye pale ale I’ve had.
