Exceptionally good palate. Brewed in clear mountain water, rich in minerals - somehow one can taste it. Perfect sourness. There are tastes but one much fight to find them. Banana? weissbier? Anyhow, nicw beer.

Alengrin (2742) - BELGIUM - JAN 31, 2015
Belgian-style witbier brewed near the Mont Blanc. Cloudy yellow colour with lightly greenish hue; irregular, milky and moussy, snow white head. Aroma of white bread, wheat, coriander seed, dried orange peel, lemon zest, fresh fish (I stress the word ’fresh’), soap, banana, cheese spread, chalk, raw potato. Fruity onset (green apple, water melon, unripe plum, gooseberry) with strong, sharp and minerally carbonation, sweetish and bready, with the typical wheaty sourishness setting in quickly; somewhat drying coriander effect in the middle, but relatively subtle, as well as the expected curaçao, both more restrained than is often the case in "real" Belgian witbier so that the grains can remain dominant; yeasty and a bit starch-like, fluffy mouthfeel, smooth, finishing in a kind of chalkiness, a bready malt sweetishness, restrained wheaty sourishness and starchy yeastiness, hops practically undetectable but still there for purely structural purposes. In all: though a bit past its prime, this is still a very refreshing and quenching witbier, but very cliché. Enjoyable nonetheless, with the bready ’barley factor’ being more prominent than the wheaty sourishness. Big thanks to Marie for bringing me this bottle from France, along with the amber ale from this brewery, which was unknown to me before.
