4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Clearly a beer from the Chimay-family: Dense, long-lasting head. Same yeast as the Chimays. Rich tasting, high-quality amber beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Developped in 2011, this is a special case among trappist beers: though brewed in a trappist monastery (Chimay), it is sold by another one, which made the trappists decide this should be a kind of "semi-trappist" not allowed to carry the official logo. Very thick, snow white head, warm copper colour with brownish hue, misty with large protein flakes. Malt sweet aroma, nutty, caramel, apple, unripe peach, grass, leather. Caramel and honeyish malts in the mouth, light ’nuttiness’, restrained fruitiness, light grassy hops in the finish without turning really bitter. Though correct and well-balanced, this lacks the body and personality of even Chimay’s own beers, strangely. I do not believe the gossip that this is a blend of two original Chimay beers, this is clearly a separate recipe, but I cannot quite grasp why Chimay hasn’t put more character in this.

3.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
First French trappist beer. From bottle into Orval goblet. Immediately the aroma is so attractive - sweet malt. Great pour with lasting head on hazy orange-bronze beer. Alcohol is completely hidden (at 7.6%). Only thing bringing it down is a bit of harshness from the hop bitterness in the finish. Overall pretty nice.

Bottle at home. High fluffy and long lasting white head. Hazy amber body. Banana dominated aroma with notes of apples, pears and honey as well. Sweet fruity flavor with a dry malt straw note, fair amount of hops bitterness, low carbonation and a short finish. Alcohol well hidden by the sweetness.
