3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Every French brewer has to make a Noël beer, even if you’re forward thinking and hop loving. Mont Salève’s Noël at least looks beautiful with stable white head over a misty glowing red copper body. It also is very un-French with its rich hop aroma. Pine tree, spruce, freshly baked bread, interesting yeast profile and a leathery twist. Unique and balanced. Tasty is somewhat more classic except for the lasting bitterness from its piney start to the cookie ending. Alcohol is well hidden, albeit the middle gives a good warming mouth feel. Slightly too short ending perhaps, but I love this brew, Could drink many. (33cl bottle. Stoked to rate this last Mont Salève beer I haven’t had. Many, many thanks to Simon of La Cave à Bulles for bringing this especially for me from Neydens and of course to Mickaël for brewing :)

33 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via Caves a Bulles, Paris. Hazy apricot, thin white head. Surprising aroma, floral hops with some sweet caramel. Flavour is sweet, with apricot and faint resin coming through and a mild alcohol burn on the finish. Nice alternative to overly sweet xmas beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
2012-12-05, bottle at La Cave à Bulles, Paris; bb Oct 2014
Hazy amber color with red hue; medium sized creamy head. Nice aroma, quality hops, but terreux (earthy) and light manure. Lean body, caramel flavor with some toffee, light liquorice that should not be there, strong bitterness with moderate resiny/piney hops. The final is a bit dry. Not bad, but a bit rough, maybe it needs a different yeast.
