COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stillwater Rye is our seasonal Belgian-style Saison. Stillwater is brewed with German rye malt and spiced with coriander and bitter orange peel. Saisons were brewed as farmhouse beers from the farm hands in Belgium as a supplement to the lack of potable water. They vary greatly due to the ingredients that are available at each farmhouse. Saisons are yeasty, hoppy and well balanced with a tart-dry finish.

On tap. Dark yellow to golden with a white head. Scent is very light rye and yeast. I don’t get much rye in the taste and I would not call this a saison at all.

Bottle: Golden pour with an ample white head. Fruity nose with a little yeast. Not picking up on the rye at all, but the coriander is there. Lots of orange peel, yes its that obvious, and Belgian yeast. Finishes sweet and more yeast, but sort of muddled together. Too sweet really... a let down.

Yellowish gold, decent sized white head. Rye and grainy aroma, and much sweeter than I was expecting. Like a candy-ish kind of sweet. Nice rye flavors, but a bit heavier bodied than I was hoping for.

Pours a golden orange with a small white head. Aromas of citrus/ginger. Flavor was kinda of muted compared to the nose.

(draft). Cloudy yellow color. Medium white head. Light rye and citrus aroma and flavor. Avg duration. Smooth finish. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Spare lacing.

From the Jug at the GABF Colorado Convention Center, Denver 11/10/2008 Fruity aroma. Golden coloured hoppy fruity and a little rich on the palate. Crisp and slightly dry in the finish.

Tap at the brewpub. These guys need a better Belgian yeast. Like the wit, this one was horribly underattenuated and lacked the light, spicy notes exemplified by the styles. Gummy, unfermented flavor, some anise and floral notes. Uncomplex and muddy all around. A big letdown considering my love for the style and excitement when she told me they had a saison on.

Draught. High creamy and lasting off-white head. Slightly hazy yellow body. Sweet fruity aroma and flavor. High carbonation. Long aftertaste.

On draft at Savor in DC (5/17/08). I tasted some orange, very light flavor overall. I didn’t get any of the peperiness associated with rye.

At Savor. Wanted to like this because I love rye, but was disappointed as this limped its way to a watery finish. Yes, rye was used, but not to great effect.
