Bottle, Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà, Rome, Italy. Very dark, nearly black, with a small, filmy head. Aroma shows chocolate, some oak, red wine and funk. Flavor shows red wine soaked oak, dark fruit, which leads into a long, satisfying roast-like finish. Complex, with lots of taste. This could be Italy’s most refined and best beer.

Bottle: The aroma is very vinous with notes of sweet and tart cherries along with some chocolate and faint oak. It pours brown with some red highlights when held to the light. It has a small beige head that diminishes almost instantly. The flavor starts with a light mixture of chocolate and caramel and then turns light-moderately vinous. The finish has mild cherry and grape tartness along with some light oak. Medium bodied with minimal carbonation.

RBSG ’08: Poured a dark brown color that looked like a glass of cola. Beige head. Tart fruity cherry aroma aand flavor with a mix of spices thrown in. The body was lighter than I expected.

Bottle: Courtesy of pepsican...thanks Andy. I don’t think I’ve ever had anything quite like this...the pour looked like some of the finest balsamic vinegar ever and the aroma was sic. Big vinous notes with some dark malts, raisins, black cherries. There seems to be a very subtle vanilla and oak tone going on but the wine-like qualities pretty much overpower them. Lightly carbonated...dry, medium body. Starts slightly sweet and wine-like and then morphs into a dark, malty, fruity finish that has notes of chocolate and oak showing through. Fine brew.

37.5 cL bottle. Pours brown and with a lacing tan head. Dense fruity and malt aroma. Smooth and inviting. Dense fruity and slight woody base flavour. Smooth and slight acidic to fruity finish.

Pours dark brown with a small light brown head. Smells pretty sweet, a little tart smelling, with some dark fruit, and caramel malt as well. The flavor was more on the fruity side, lots of creamy vanilla mixed in with grapes, apples, plums, and a touch of some bready yeast as well. The alcohol presence was masked quite nicely for a barley wine although this wasnt a monster of a beer by any means. I thought this was well done.
