Thanks Manuele! Dark brown, oily top with thinnest cream beige ring. Anise, chocolate, and earth in the nose, sweeter flavor has muted profile, light chocolate and anise, bit thin roast and chocolate through the short finish. A uniquely spicy barley wine without excess sugar.

Black pour with a tan head. Small head and no lacing left behind. Smells malty and a bit raisiny. Sweet taste. Slight bitterness. Very bitter on the back. Not a hop bitterness, but more of a tannin astringency. Raisins, figs, dates, plums. Mostly raisins, though. Sticky sweet mouth feel. Not cloying. Slightly bitter. Very decent beer. Not much like a barley wine though, but close enough.

glennmastrange (2145) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JUN 2, 2011
Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of toasted and dark bread, moderate resin for the hops, leather and meat for the yeast, with background notes of raisin and a hint of licorice. Head is non-existent and the color is muddy dark brown with a decent amount of dark colored particles. Flavor starts moderately sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with carbonation that is almost flat, and finishes lightly astringent, moderately alcoholic and dry. An excellent slow drinker, itís bold and rich, but some of the finer points of a Barley Wine are lost on it.

Bottle shared with tarheels86td. Almost black, brown head. Aroma of alcohol and bread. Taste is black bread and pumpernickel. Nice.

750mL at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fŗ in Rome. The pour is a near jet black with a large, tan head leaving webby lace. Aroma is Abbey Quadrupel: deep forest fruits, blueberry, raspberry chocolate, heavy dark fruits. Taste is massively sweet, cocoa, tart berries, butter, lightly metallic, a little watery. Palate adds some oil, ganache, fullness. Really just so far out of the barleywine category, but still a nice one.

Bottle from A Tutta Birra, Milan. Very dark brown pour with a vanishing tan head. Sweet, fruity vinous nose. Plenty of sweet malt and roast character in the flavour with notes of chocolate, spice, dark fruits and a slight sourness lurking. Dryish finish. Not really like any barley wine Iíve tasted but pretty decent stuff.

From a bottle poured a dark brown/black color with a small amount of head. Strong sweet malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste.

Tap. Huge light tan head on an almost black hue thatís more like a deep, dark brown. Rich maltiness and sweetness thatís balanced by a muted hop presence. Rich maltiness, with plums and dark candy sugar. Very thick body, and very soothing. Nice sipping brew and thanks to Alejandro at Bir & Fud.

Dark Brown in color. Kind of muddled. Nutty. Like a huge nut brown ale. Big malts. Buttery, sweet, salty, but with some bitter hops. Interesting beer that I donít find overly pleasant to drink. Pretty good but not great.
