Bottle from Cole’s Italian Beer Tasting: Very dark ruby-brown color with almost no head. Lots of dark fruit aromas accompanied by light toffee notes. Sweet and malty with a blancing dose of hops, subtle flaovrs of caramel and cocoa throughout. Not too shabby.

Bottled. Mahogany colour, minimal head. Caraelly and very sweet. Near full bodied with wll rounded mouthfeel. Toff overpowers everything in its way, coffee lures behind. Like a too sweet, warming cushion of toffee.

Murky brown pour with a thin beige head. Pleasant aroma of caramel, raisins and malt. Good flavor of caramel, raisins and malt, it’s sweet, but not too much. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. Good stuff.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of malts, dark ripe fruits, ash, slight roasting, and a hint of smoke. Poured dark brown in color with a small, tan head, that diminished but lasted around the edges. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is complex and light to medium sweet. Tastes of roasted malts, caramel, wood, tobacco, slight alcohol, slight smoke, slight chocolate, and some coffee. Medium body. Slick, slightly oily texture. Soft to average carbonation. Sweet, caramel, wood, roasted malt, and tobacco finish. 8.5%ABV is quite well hidden.

This dark brown ale poured with a rich tan head and a burnt caramel aroma. The flavor is raisin and coffee with a smoky alcohol trail.

Morgan’s tasting, 07MAR09. Paper wrapped 750. Reddish brown with a beige head. Raisin nose, something burnt, sweet, caramel. Raisiny flavor, a bit boozy, some chocolate. Decent.

On tap at Bir & Fud, Rome. Dark brown. Full coffee and toast aroma. Sour smoke playing with the sweetness. Deceivingly easy to drink.

Bottled.A dark brown beer with a red shine under a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, as well as light notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of wood, caramel, and soy sauce, leading to a dry woody finish. Huge thanks to yespr for sharing.

750ml from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond. Dark and slightly opaque pour, the cloudiness recalling Goudenband or something in that range. Strong yeasty aroma, with hints of intense roasted malt. Not sure that mix is too successful, but there it is. Mouthfeel is average, with a slightly waxy feel. The taste is characterized by more or less the same tension that you find in the nose: a smooth candied malt presence (Belgian strong mixed with barleywine) with a dry, dusky finish. It doesn’t always work, and my impressions vary sip to sip it seems. Not bad, but yikes, the price is ridiculous.

Squisita.
