Slightly cloudy amber color with a thin stark white head. Slight malic fruity aroma, mild funk, some lighter grain underneath. Slight funky sharp start yields to a fruity base. Not terribly complex, but still nice.

Poured a hazed orange amber color with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma was a mix of spices and wild yeast. Woody with some fruity malt. The flavor was woody and fruity with some vanilla notes. Light warmth and a light-medium body. Tasty stuff.

Thanks to goldtwins for sharing. Deep cloudy amber beer with a very creamy white head. Aroma is quite nice. Very oaky with a lot of soft vineous fruitiness. A little bit of peppery character. Strong estery aroma. The flavour shows strong Belgian malts that have dried out quite a bit in the barrel and a chewy fruitiness as well. Fairly vineous with lots of oak flavour as well. It’s hefty, but complex and enjoyable.

Bottle. Hazy orange red coloured with a huge off white ehad. Light acidic aroma of white wine with notes of oak, brett and vanilla. Light acidic flavour of white wine with notes of oak, brett, vanilla and hops. Oaky and hoppy finish.

Thanks to goldtwins for sharing - very cloudy, peach-colored beer, with a foamy head - aroma of oak, cherry, light earthy funk, mild spice, a bit of fruit skin tannins - full but soft carbonation - mellow vanilla and oak, some red wine character, warming spices and alcohol - some herbal bitterness on the back - the barrel is really well-integrated, and never overpowering - very nice.

13 oz bottle. This is so completely different from the base beer, the barrel aging has really improved this into an exceptional beer. Pours slightly darker amber than the demon hunter with a large creamy long lasting head. Nose is definitely bretty but not overly so, woody and oaky with some definite spice and caramel. The flavor is just amazing. In fact its quite similar to the Saint Bon Chien I had earlier in the night. Not as deep or quite as complex but the flavor profile is similar. Woody and tart with a sour finish definite cherry though not as intense as the bon chien. Spicy middle with some black pepper. Perfect carbonation and perfectly hidden alcohol. Wonderful, and probably will get more so with a year of age on it.

Pours a hazy, glowing, dark orange amber color. A massive, spongy head of cream colored foam recedes very slowly, eventually settling in as a thin but lasting blanket. Obtuse flares and large spots of lacing line the glass. The nose is quite funky, starting with a base of pale malt, hints of candy sugar, and a bready, doughy yeast profile. Brett funk and sharp vanilla stem from the old, saturated oak. Floral notes lend freshness and depth, while vinous grape notes offer a dose of fruity tartness. Flavors follow suit, mild candy and caramel sweetness up front quickly escorted off stage by the dry, doughy, bretty yeast and sharp vinous character. The finish is long, tart, and almost bone dry, with some grassy, peppery hops lending some bitterness. Medium bodied, with balanced carbonation. Jolly Pumpkin Biere de Mars meets Orval meets wine barrel, only not quite as well put together as those two fantastic beers......that’s how I’d compare this one. Nice stuff, though.

Interesting. Just last week I had Mikkeller Its Alive, and as unique as it was, this one is alot like it! Started with a buggy wild yeasty doughy funky nose, traces of grassy hops. Flavor was not very tart but had some lean malt, a mild vinous character with touches of barrel, but then a big grassy/spicy hop finish. Finish was long and bitter. Like the Mikkeller beer, it reminds of Orval on steroids. This one had just a touch less funk. Deep red-copper color, bubbly large head.

Looks like a work in progress to me....needs some improvement, smells like an aged (lambic?) styled beer, but with wine notes (it’s aged in Barbera barrels).

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2009 Bottle, 8.5%. Vinous aroma, good lambik notes. Hazy red brown colour. Small white head. Sweet flavour, good vanilla notes. The flavour has a very good combination of oak, vanilla and acid. Horrible with an anchovy pizza, but I knew that before I ordered it. After finishing the pizza it becomes clear that this is a good and well-balanced beer. Citric and sweet with oaky notes in just the right combination. 7 3 8 4 16

Bottle, 8.5%. Good citric aroma, with some raisin. Cloudy red orange colour. The flavour is quite citric, good raisin flavour. Some oak barrel flavour, not so much vanilla as just wood. High carbonation. 8 3 8 3 19
