Flat looking black beer with a good coffee aroma, but a fairly weak malty flavour. Overall a plain dark beer.

Good black color, small tan head tha fade fast. The aroma was malty and nicely chocolatey with a mildhint of fruit coming through, along with a little caramel as well.Nice chocolate and caramel taste with a nice sweetness, and the finish isshocolate and mild coffee with a slight bitterness as well.Very nice Schwarzbier a little sweeter then i was expecting but, still it managed to come off as quite decent. Thanks to Mutant for this nice brew.

alot like carbine stout, lots of chocolate/espresso coffee flavours from the roasted malts, rather tasty and easy to drink

Aroma was slightly metallic with more than a hint of malt. Roasty flavours with a bit of dark chocolate, mildy sweet but no hop flavours noticable. Bit thin in the mouthfeel but that could be the carbonation.

Yes very impressive, strong malty sweet flavour but light and smooth on a delicate, lingering palate. I am impressed by the way beer is made. This is a very good effort.

Well... I had always considered this to be one of my favourite beers, but now I am reconsidering.
Aroma is good as always, chocolate, coffee and a fair bit of malt, but with a weird vegetable (roasted capsicum?) aroma.
Tasted overly sweet to me in an unfermented kind of way. Lacking the bitterness to balance the sweetness too. Couldn't hold its head for more than a few seconds.
Still good, but nowhere near as great as I recall. Will probably rerate.

Like the roasted and rich chocolate flavours in this one that and the appearance, to me it was black with a light brown lasting head, could easily make a good session beer for me. Cheers!

Black has the right body to be able to enjoy a quiet one or to drink when your having a big one. I love the chocolate and roasted malt flavours in a beer which is dark and creamy. Highly enjoyable. cheers

A personal favourite when visting kiwi land. Have tried off tap and now in bottle, and the bottle is best. It's a dark brew with creamy head. Burnt malt and a light chocolate flavour blends nicely giving an enjoyable drinking experience.

Starts well but finishes too thin. Good honest flavours not compromised by chemicals. Light enough in body and palate to be enjoyed year round. I found chocolate but no coffee -- and less of a taste "hit" than Tooheys Old. This is v-e-r-y drinkable.
