Nice creamy head, stong malt flavour on the nose.

Black colour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and a slight hint of hops. Taste of roasted malt with notes of chocolate and a finishing coffee bitterness. A slight metallic taste in background with some sourness (in a peculiar way). A light body without beeing watery. A good beer but with a slightly odd after-taste that doesn’t fully suit my taste.

Thin and fizzy but easy to drink. The carmel hits you like a fricking macchiato and renders your taste buds inert for the remaining 300ml. Either that or the surprise just wears off and leaves you wanting a real beer. I’d pass on this next round.

330ml bottle. Dark brown colour with average, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma, a touch of roast and grass, hints of chocolate. Taste is minimally sweet dark malty, a touch of milk chocolate and cappuccino, minimally roasty and bitter hoppy finish.

355mL at the Quad in Las Vegas. Darker cola red pour. Decent tan head. Okay lace. Nose is not great, some old tootsie roll, something savory like worcheshire sauce and soy. Taste is mild soy, worcheshire, Some lactic acid balance. Not bad, savory and lactic. Drinkable.

Appearance: Brown-black body with a tall, but thin, tan coloured head. Leaves a small amount of lacing down the glass. Aroma: Black american-style coffee (not espresso), roast grains, and a little bit of ’dry’ sweetness. Taste: Quite bitter and burnt flavours at the front, with some smoother (but not smooth enough) caramelised malt following. Finishes with a slightly mettalic ash taste that is quite unpleasant. A bit flat and thin. I can tell that it definitely is not a stout! Mouthfeel: Quite dry, with medium carbonation. Quite a light body, but too harsh and astringent to be enjoyable. Overall: No thanks. I didn’t enjoy this at all, but am not sure if it is the beer or just the style, as I haven’t had another Schwarzbier before. I think I can understand what it is trying to achieve, so I will try to find a better example of the style.

Pours a deep mahogany color with anicetanhead that fades to web like l acing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, bit of grain and a hint of chocolate in the background. Taste of roasted malt, some caramel sweetness, dark fruit, with a trace of chocolate and coffee. Nice bitterness and the finish is quite clean. Moderate body and smooth. Nie balance. Enjoyable beer that goes down easy.

Bottle. Looks a bit like coca-cola except without the fizz and a slightly more dense body. Aroma. Can smell mocha espresso flavours, with also notes of cream and biscuit. Flavour. Can taste flavours of Coffee, Dark Chocolate and a slight lingering bitterness, along with general roasted grain flavours. Overall. Good beer, nice and smooth from start to finish with no off flavours. Definitely my favorite Monteiths Beer.

first time i had this about a year ago i can remember it being not bad. this time i think i got a bad bottle as everything was horribly metallic and rather a put off. i’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and split the difference. couldn’t taste much of the coffee or chocolate that i remember from last time.
