33 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a small, creamy and tan head. Roasted breadish malt aroma with a mild fruity touch. Flavour is also solid breadish with a distinct roasted note. Mild spiced and light fruity. Light liqourice finish with a continued roasted flavour.

The aroma is sweet caramelic with notes of roasted bread. The color is dark brown and it has a small disappearing head. The flavor is of caramel, roasted malt, and a light maltyness, before it ends on an OK bitterness. The body is thin. A boring schwarzbier.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Very dark, almost black with a brownish head. No less than five different malts were used for this. The appearance is roasted almost burned but at the same time mild without any sharp bitterness. Monteith’s has been bought up by the national brewing giant DB meaning that only very little beer is actually brewed on the West Coast of the South Island. This for instance is brewed in Auckland. 260503

Bottled (from bierzwerg.de). Rubyish brown colour, mediumsized off-white head that leaves some lace. Aroma is malty, some roasted malts, mild toffeeish notes as well as some ashes and mild dark dry fruity notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some ashes, mild chocolate, raisins and a quite bitter finish.
