There’s plenty of rich maltiness from this Pale Ale and higher-kilned malt combination. The Cascade and special New Zealand hops create a fruity aroma with a dose of bitterness to drive home the hop flavour. A beer for the IPA aficionado with a distinctly Kiwi style. Perfect for a moment spent catching up with old mates.

Bottle from Beer Cafe Ueda. Monteith’s IPA 5.5% 35 IBUs It pours a bit of a flat looking brownish gold with a soapy head of foam. A fruity nose that has a rough earthy graininess to it. The taste is caramel, rough grains and a bitterness that is a bit tannic and green but mostly neutral in flavor. A 1990s style British IPA that has been lobotimized removing most flavor and character leaving an insipid malty sweet lightly bitter bland beer. Drinkable but not what anyone in 2014 would expect from an IPA. Boring but not terrible.

0,33 bottle from Viking Line ferry boat from Stockholm to Helsinki. Dark orange with some head. Taste has some hops mixed with CO2. Dies rather quickly in your mout. A bit too watery for a IPA.

Bottle from Viking Line tax free. Clear golden amber color, good off-white head. Harsh, woody hoppy aroma. Medium-bodied. Piney, resiny hoppyness. Feels even more bitter than 35 ibu. A bit harsh.

33cl Bottle from The Beer Tree. Clear amber colour, white head. Aroma of some light grassy hops, some pine, light malts. Flavour is medium sweet, light fruity, light malty, light pine, light grass, light bitter finish. Light bodied. Went well with my roti, but otherwise forgettable.

Somewhere between tasteless and mildly offensive. Smells awful. Tastes awful. Zero character. The brewer makes claims about hops, but I just can’t find them.

Bottle. Golden yellow, almost clear with a small white head. Aroma has grain, vegetable, dust and a little citrus. Taste has grain, dust and some fruit. Surprisingly nothing hoppy going on. Aftertaste is bitterish, body is ok though a bit shallow. Goes down easy enough, but doesn’t make mark in any direction.
