MelbBrewersJD (32), Australia Jul 10, 2008 At 6%ABV this is not a Dopplebock and barely a Bock. That said it is a very nice and great value commercial offering. Nice colour with ruby hints, enjoyably malty although you would expect much more from a true dopllebock. Overall a very well balanced beer I thought. gam (1059), brisbane, Australia Jun 15, 2008 Good thick frothy bubbly head, off white in colour, tan colour, dark red/brown bock with good carbonation.Aroma mild notes of caramel, chocolate.Flavour, mild grittiness, taste of liccorice, coffee liquers, bitter dark chocolate, very easy going down ale.Finish bitter, dry full flavours of coffee and chocolate liquers.Strong rich tastes you get in liquers. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jun 1, 2008 Sulpher malt hop aroma. Dark brown red colour with good head and lacing. Malt flavour with hint of burnt chocolate. Smooth palate. ChrisTurner (202), Melbourne, Australia May 31, 2008 Bottle -- Deep, dark red withfair beige head with nice retention and lacing. Apart from the head, looks a lot like Coke in the glass, with large bubbles on the bottom. Malty aroma with lots of caramel sweetness. Creamy palate with carbonation. Flavour is all malt with a dry roasted edge at the end. Nice and without any cloying sweetness. madquacker (706), Canberra ACT, Australia May 13, 2008 Light black brown colour. Not a big head. Coffee and ash tastes with an old guiness type smoothness. Velvety and smooth. Stew41 (1042), Caulfield, Australia Feb 26, 2008 Not bad and a reasonable interpretation of the style. Dark fruits and malts on the nose with cola hints. Similar to taste although the spices, as quoted on the label, become more pronounced. Plenty of dark malts and chocolate. Tails off on the finish. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 23, 2008 (Bottle 33 cl) Clear, dark, orangey brown with a small, rough, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts and some alcohol - a fairly authentic "German" aroma.. Solid body with a fine base of roasted malt, caramel and some nuts - a lightly burned accents also. The finish is dry with both some bitterness and some alcohol. In spite of the confusion about the contradictionary name "Doppelbock Ale", this clearly is a Doppelbock - even a good one. 200208 sunevdj (1765), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Feb 17, 2008 Pours a clear brown with a beige foamy head. Sweet with a little bitter dryness. Lots of caramelaromas with a hint of molasses and toasted malts. Medium to full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. High cqrbonation. Dry slightly metqllic finish. Gave me saltkringle burps.
