3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 18/20
500ml bottle from BWS. Bright orange colour with a small head of foam. Aroma is quite modest with not a lot coming through. In the mouth the beer has good mouthfeel and body. Hints of vanilla in the flavour. Overall not too bad.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
33cl bottle from Viking Line/Gabriella. Bb 07/14. Clear dark golden, thick white head. Herbal, leafy, some citrusy hops in aroma. Flavor is mainly malty, herbal, lagery grainy almost. Some distant hops. Thin, bitter short finish. 1,40€ /bottle,I have had worse beer much more expensive than this.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours orange with a two finger white head sorting on top. Goes massively downhill from here. Can’t smell any hops. Closer to stale bread. Taste....no hops. None. Fucking shithouse sums this beer up

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Look, I realise hops are expensive in both New Zealand and Australia but this is getting ridiculous with these macro’s shining the light on their ’generous’ hop use in their descriptions only to deliver such sub-par efforts as this one. I used an etched glass which was a fail as it quickly rose up and out the lip; a little for the glass and a lot for the kitchen counter. Settles an honourable orange amber and sparkling with a good two inches of plumage. Grain mainly on the nose; toasted wholemeal, pumpernickel (?), Weet-Bix™ cereal, just a fluff of spice. Nutty, husky, slightly phenolic, burnt toast and caramel blend on the palate doused by sticky and cloying marmalade-esque notes in back and into the linger Body is cumbersome and awkward as it warms becoming gammy. Yet another dreary Monteith’s effort. (50cL, BBE 07/13, BWS Ellenbrook)

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle courtesy of Falco242, who was good enough to bring it all the way back with him from New Zealand. Fruity aroma with a hint of hops. Hazy amber with visible carbonation and a thin ring of off-white head. Flavor is on the dry side which makes sense considering the low ABV for an IPA. Although the commercial description refers to the beer as a pale ale...odd when the beer label calls it an IPA. Nice, lingering hop finish with some breadiness. Better as a pale ale than as an IPA, although in both cases it is fairly unbalanced in favor of the hops. I’d rather it be in that direction if it’s going to be unbalanced. Still, all style characteristics aside, it qualifies as a pretty good session beer with solid amount of hop bitterness.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle from Viking Grace’s taxfree. Coppery clear. Murky old leafy, slight piney hoppy nose with some caramels, light bready English earthy- like. Medium full body, nice mouthfeel. But the flavour- isn’t quite cardboardy, but close. Really murky old. Has a good bitterness balance, but feels just old. BBE jun/14, so I assume this is what it should taste like.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pale gold in colour toward amber with a fluffy white head that looks rather good. Tight, creamy bubbles that clung on to form good lace. The aroma was of fairly mellow hops balanced with golden malts, contributing toward orange citrus on the nose. Maybe even a little tropical flower character. The flavour was peachy with tangy citrus bitterness but even then, it wasn’t s knockout "I have fallen in love with you" beer. The IPA style has considerable range from subtle, mature English IPA to brash, forthright hoppy monsters from the US: this sat in neither camp and barely registered its presence among competitors. Yes it is good for introducing people to the style, no it is not a good example. Just a light, clean sessionable pale ale sorry.
