3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Scott_Snyder (27) - USA - JUL 3, 2011
Tannish colored fluffy head, good retention and lacing. Medium brown color with a slight red hue. Sweet malty aroma with notes of breadiness and almost no perceivable hop aroma. Surprisingly medium low bodied for a stout. Very enjoyable flavors of roasted malt and nice sweetness. Finishes chocolaty and refreshing. My scoring is based more on the fact that I enjoyed the beer than whether or not it met style guidelines.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Beautiful thick foamy head contrasts with the deep dark colour. Smells of smokey coffee with a tart tinge to it. A little bitter.

Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, tart and dusty notes and cherries. The taste is roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and a chalky finish. Medium bodied, very high carbonation. Nice beer.

Bottle: Pours an opaque black with a pillowy clingy-lacing creamy froth of light tan head. Has a lightly sweet toasty dark caramel malty nose with a touch of dark chocolate and light tart fruits. Starts with a light malty sweetness and some light toffee notes with doughy yeasty flavors and light fruity esters before a drier, lightly roasted finish. An enjoyable and balanced dry stout.

On tap at Bruxellensis 2008. Black with a big, creamy and lacing tan head. Roasted malts, coffee and chocolate nose. Good roasted flavours throughout, dry. Relatively light-bodied, making me think more of a mild. So there is hope for Spain.

Bottle in Barcelona.
My guess is that this is a Schwatzbier rather than a stout. Malty, yet dryness and a hint of soot. Not earth shattering but fine with food.

Bottle from Pizza Port Bottle Shop. Pours very black with a huge foamy beige/tan head that clings. Smells sweet like a milk stout. Medium body with foamy carbonation. It seems a bit unsweet. Flavor is chocolate and burnt malt, though fairly smooth. It is pretty dry and pretty bitter. It is in fact delicious.
