COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel aged (bottled) version only
This 2007 barrel aged imperial stout is our inaugural vintage release. Permanently ’borrowed’ from the winery after 2 years work aging estate grown chardonnay, the fine oak tannin supports the residual sweetness and adds structure to the malt palate. Moo Brew contains no additives or preservatives and is not pasteurised. Cellar in cool temperatures. Enjoy.

2012 vintage. Pours beautiful black with generous tan head. strong coffee and roasted flavours, not much hop noticeable. Nice subtle sweetness, not particularly bitter. This is less rich in alcohol, maltiness and mouthfeel than most imperial stouts but it completely works for it. An absolutely delicious beer to sip and savour with dessert.330 ml bottle at Nant distillery restaurant.

Tastings of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 editions. 2012 appears the thickest, with 2012 and 2013 seeming slightly lighter. Not as jet black as some imperial stouts. Nose is coffee and cocoa dominated, with some caramel sweetness and a boozy finish, particularly with the 2013 and 2011. Some oakey flavours have also made it into the brew. Delicious

Bottle shared at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to Josh, 16/01/14. Black with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is light roast, hint of booze, dark toffee fudgedom, sweet notes, chocolate. Taste comprises big roasty notes, brown sugars, jammy berry fruit, dark chocolate, dark toffee, oaky BA booze backnotes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying finish. Decent enough for the style.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Josh for another rare opportunity to try Australian craft beer. Opaque dark brown stout with a small pale tan head. Light airy palate, slightly soft. Good tangy dark malts, little dark chocolate and a whisper of coconut. There is a fruity something going on as well. Light dry finish. Comes together well. Tasty.

Bottle courtesy of Josh. It pours near black with a thick tan head. The nose is rich-roast, chocolate, vanilla, coconut, tangy dark fruit and wood. The taste is rich, bitter-sweet, earth, toast, chocolate, blackcurrant, bramble, jam, vinous notes and mild acidity. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Smooth, fruity and rather drinkable. Nice one.

Bottled 33 cl, stubbie, after the brewery tour at Moorilla Estate Brewery, Winery, and Gallery, Hobart, on August 9, 2013.
In the tasting bar, after nagging them to finally look enough for it to find it.
2010 vintage, bottle 0593/2500. Marked 8.0% ABV.
They couldn’t find the 2011 vintage, I was happy for the 2010 though! $25 a bottle.
Clear black color, some dark red and brown hints. Brown head. Sweet, coconut, vanilla, roasted, nice scent. Sweet, alcohol, grainy, roasted, coffee taste. Coffee aftertaste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium high bitterness.
Very nice, one of the best beers I had on my 5 week trip in Oz, so happy I kept bothering the staff until they located one for me. Kept well with age too.
