3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A well-made weizen with additions so subtle that they’re hard to pick. In other words, this is not at all what I’ve come to expect from Moon Dog, who rarely leave out the kitchen sink when the opportunity presents. It gives a typical over-excitable Moon Dog pour - a head:body ratio of about 3:1. Hazy lemon barley water colour and an enormous whipped egg-white head that takes an eternity to settle. Inviting aroma with the banana-and-clove yeast notes prominent and the lime and watermelon in the background. Very light in the body, which flatters the style. Really summery and refreshing, which makes no sense right now because it’s 4C outside. As with the aroma, there is more banana than watermelon on the tongue. Some clove spice and a squeeze of lime sourness in the finish. Overall, very balanced. Nice summer drinking - this would be so much better than a VB after playing footy. (330ml bottle from Leura Cellars.)

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2015 Bottle from cellarbrations super store in hami hill. Pours a hazy yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is slight banana, clove, watermelon and sherbet. Body is light with medium carbonation. Taste is quite sour with slight mint characters. Has lots of zest and spice to it as well and plenty of clove spiciness. Overall was quite refreshing.

Hard to mark this one - totally out of my comfort zone - jarringly tart sour hit upfront - get the watermelon - distinct vanilla aftertaste - interesting for a change but not my style.

I loved this, the fresh melon flavour leaves a fruity after-taste, which makes me want to track it down in my area.

Bottle from Slowbeer (Feb 2014). Hazy pale orange, small white head, fizzy, soda-like carbonation, banana, cloves, sweet melon, citrusy/lime bitterness, light body, thin texture, lingering watermelon taste to finish. Nice.

I believe that this could have benefit from a few more IBU.
Not to my personal taste, but I should not discount it as a result of this.

Bottle 33 cl thanks to jduvet! On June 24, 2014.
Cloudy yellow to apricot skin color, small white head. Sweet, alcohol, fruity, some banana scent. Melon, yeast, fruity, some clove taste. Clove, yeasty aftertaste. Very fizzy mouthfeel, very low bitterness.
The scent and taste are very different, the melon taste would do better without the strong yeast character present. Very very very fizzy mouthfeel, detracts a lot from the perception of the beer.

330ml bottle from Scratch Bar 090214. While not a big fan of watermelon I found that this beer was quite good. You can certainly taste the watermelon and it is a refreshing drop.

It pours a cloudy yellow, absolutely no head, zero carbonation, shake it up there will be no bubbles. The aroma is fruity, very little watermelon in there, the taste similar, surprisingly drinkable but you can barely call this a beer.
