Bottle from Mane Liquor. This is getting on a bit now - around 6 months old or so. Nothing outrageous here - pretty much a straight forward Schwarz with some chilli added to the mix. I think they’ve hit the nail on the head though. Great amount of chilli which gives it a nice zing but nothing too over the top. Has a really good ’dusty cocoa’feel to it and the mouth feel is very creamy and full. Drinks superbly and the abv never comes through. I like it

Maris (914) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAR 27, 2014
From a 330ml bottle on 27/3/2014. Pours the darkest brown with a huge tan head. Cherry and a bit of chocolate feature in the aroma. Flavour wise, there’s a lot going on, with milk chocolate most prominent, along with caramel, dark fruit, licorice, nuts, and smoked meat, followed by a light bitterness. The chilli is quite noticeable at the back, but it’s never too much, and provides a nice contrast to the initial sweetness. The body is creamy and the carbonation lively. This is an unusual brew but well worth a try if you like a beer with a touch of heat.

ALLOVATE (2281) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - FEB 11, 2014
Black and opaque with just a little brown showing in the shallows. No head and little evident carbonation-wise. Rough hint of smoke, charred wood and smoked peppers upon the nose with hints of heavily roasted grain, fresh cracked coffee bean, tar and wood resin. Juicy, sweet and plump on the palate, but more leaning towards cola soda than fruit esters. A touch of the smoke that dominates the aroma with a sly burn in the finish from the peppers. Body is medium light with a sprightly carbonation. As it warms it becomes cloying. Astringent but overly sweet, icky. And the smoke and burnt tar doesn’t help. Not Moondog’s best. I hoped for more. (33cL, no date stamp, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Bottle from Slowbeer. Dark cola-brown, clumps of sediment, quickly fading tan head, chocolate malts, smoky, coffee, dry roasty bitterness, can’t taste the chilli, but there’s some residual warmth. Ok, not a stand-out.

330ml Bottle. Dark brown/black colour. Thin beige head. Aromas of dark malts, nuts and smokey chili. Hints of a coffee flavour, but otherwise a malty and spiced character with a spice from the jalapenos creating a warmth and spicy aftertaste

Davros (1806) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - NOV 14, 2013
Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Nose shows roasted malt, a soft smokey hit, sweet caramel and soft bready notes. Roasty flavours too but with a fair bit of sweetness from some bready malt. A faint smokey notes is present along with the faintest amount of chilli spice. Nice creamy mouthfeel, carbonation could be a little higher though.

330ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Not as hot as I expected this beer to be. Dark brown colour with a head that fades quickly. The flavour is good and the finish is long.

Pours almost totally black with a beige head. Aroma is malt, toastiness, spices, coffee and chocolate and hints of alcohol. Taste is medium to high sweet leading to a warming sweet and spicy finish with a hint of alcohol burn on the way down. Loved it!
