4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle 330ml from Purvis. Masterpiece, great hoppy nose, with robust body. Aromas of caramel, smoke, grass, and liquorice. Sweet start, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is syrupy, and full bodied. Dark brown, with a frothy head.

These guys mean business. I havenít tasted an Aussie beer at this level of complexity. This is big boy Belgian yeast character with a backdrop of quality hops and brown sugar ! Outstanding

I love MoonDog beers! This one is one of my favorites, a Bulgo-American India Brown.
The pour is impenetrable dark brown, almost porter brown, a creamy off white to brown sits on top. Just the aroma of this beer is enough to score it highly, everything is there like the name suggests, rich rich stone fruits and brown sugar, a fortified wine buzz, roasted malt and a nice hit of Belgium chocolate.
At first the taste isn't a heavy hitting as most Belgium strong ales, it's almost a little fresh. That does not last long, the fruits, cherry, raisin hit you hard, a sherry soaked fruit cake. The strong dry hopping cuts through a lot of this, definate pine resins help with the fruit.
The finish is thick and smooth, a Belgium like sweetness is left, but a nice roast and hop bitterness are a nice touch. Awesome beer!

Bottle. Sexual pleasure in a glass. Nutty and toasty. Some aniseed. The hops donít come through at first, but later explode, but still blends well on the palate.

330ml bottle. Layers of brown colour fill the glass. Carries a fine modest sand coloured foam. A great bg mixture of aromas with fruity, sweet and sour all blended together. Thin in the mouth with lots of flavour. Like the aroma the flavour is a great mixture and leaves the palate very confused.

Now weíre talking. Itís been a long time since I tried a new bottled Aussie beer this good. Great piney hop aroma with no funny stuff, with chocolate milk and stroopwafel malt in the background. Itís really quite light-bodied but perfectly proportioned, everything exactly where it should be. Great hop flavour, good clean bitterness with really nice spicy malt edges. Could use a touch more malt guts, and I reckon they could achieve the same flavours at a lower alcohol content, but theyíre minor quibbles. Unusually elegant stuff for these guys, and for all the crazy style stuff, quite straightforward. Nice one.

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2013 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours murky brown with a thick, off white head. Aroma of vibrant citrus hops, pine and a touch of toffee malts. Caramel is surrounded by citrus and hop resin before a finish of pine and dry, roasted malts. Sharp bitterness to finish with quite a full bodied mouth feel. Very, very nice

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours murky dark brown with a large, lasting head.
Boths hops and roasted malt are strong on the nose; big coffee and cocoa notes alongside grapefruit, pine and peach.
Same story with the flavours, big roasty characters as mentioned in the aroma, while the hops are mostly noticeable in a big, brash bitterness. Some alcohol is noticeable, but not hot.

Lost a bit to the opening explosion. Another murky brown pour that threw a shedload of sediment that just seem to hang in suspension because the beer is so thick. Superb depth of flavours that linger on the palate. One of the best beers I have tried out of Oz.
