First had at the brewery - very fresh and full of aroma, very pleasantly surprised - now sampling from the bottle, served in a spiegelau glass. Golden orange, bit of head, some lacing. Great nose, antipodean stone fruits (in spite of the predominately US hops!), clean spice, orange peel, Belgian strawgrass. Funky and grapefruity. West coast pine comes through strongly, a lot of funk and great floral taste. Bitter, breakfast fruit, some Nor Cal in there and a touch of smoke too. Some toffee sweetness going back and a crisp butter finish. Tart and crisp...almost too sessionable! Wouldn't want to take more than one or two to a summer BBQ! A great Aussie IPA, makes a difference having something fresh and local that hasn't sat on a ship for 3 months and is fairly priced since you don't pay import duty on a 7% beer. Especially good on tap! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep gold with a ridiculously big foamy head. Sweet, malty, tropical fruit and lolly smell. Taste is malty, sweet, a little citrus and a bit biscuity. Not overly bitter. Itís a bit of a strange one, not bad, but not a typical US IPA.

A decent IPA but somehow less than the sum of its parts. Plenty has gone into this but it falls away notably in the back palate. Bitterness also seems less than the 65 IBU claimed on the bottle. Not calling them out on it but I expected more oomph. Comes with a characteristically exuberant MoonDog head that refuses to settle atop a muddy pale bronze body. Over-ripe aroma dominated by Amarillo and dextrose. Smells promising but perhaps sweeter than the style warrants - like fruity boiled lollies. Melon notes and sucrose. Medium-bodied and moderately carbonated, despite a head that does not give an inch. The hops have it on the tongue but thereís surprisingly little cut-through for the hop bill. Resinous, with a faintly astringent note that detracts from an otherwise clean ípinomintí finish. Scratching my head about this - itís like a movie with a great cast, great director and a great script and yet it doesnít quite come together. (330ml bottle from Leura Cellars)

330ml bottle at Scratch Bar 270314. While not as out there as some of their beers this is still a good solid IPA and as always the label is weird and wacky.

Would never have picked this as an IPA in a blind. Missing that typical supet-citrus flavour of most US IPAís, not necessarily to itís detriment. Vegetable and malty aroma, high carbonation, dry finish. Not a punch of flavour and bitterness like most, but at 7% is not exactly sessionable. Some bready flavour with a grapefruit and herbal finish. Quite enjoyable

Pours dark amber with a large, lasting mousse-like head. Nose shows lovely sweet clean malt with a cookie dough-like hint, musk sticks, fruity confectionery and mango/paw paw/rockmelon. Lovely. Toned down flavours, some sweet clean malt, grapefruit, pine and bready notes leading to an aggressive sharp bitterness. Carbonation is a bit over the top.

On tap at Moondogs bar lightly zesty good hop and malt balance hiding the 7 percent. Sheet lacing and perfectly clear ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 330ml bottle on 7/5/2014. Pours a cloudy dark golden with a big foamy white head. Has a slightly odd, sweet, fruity, yeasty aroma, with some bubblegum in the mix. Take a sip and itís the malt that holds sway, with lots of bread and some caramel. Some sweet citrus fruit follows, along with a medium spicy bitterness. Has a fullish body and is a touch over-carbed. This is a bit of a strange beast - I wouldnít really pick it as an IPA blind, as it barely resembles the typical US style. Thereís more malt than hops here, notwithstanding the spicy kick at the end (there is perhaps a hint of a rye IPA there). The body is fullish and itís perhaps just a touch over-carbed. I actually quite enjoyed it after my initial puzzlement, but real hop heads may be a bit disappointed. The monkey on the label is pretty cool though.

Very MOR. Some modern sweetness in the palate but not particularly resin packed or bitter. Smokey, slatey, almost reductive note to finish. Does fade somewhat in the back palate. Not convinced all is ok here.
