This is a delicious smooth Barrelly wine which makes it very hard to believe that it?s 14.6%. I will definitely recommend this to friends.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a murky brown with no head, which is forgiven for a beer nearing 30 proof. Aromas of light caramel, sherry, and alcohol, but not much else, even as it warms. However, mild aromas hide the wonders within. Flavours open wide with caramel, dates, cinnamon, fig, star anise, banana bread, and port. A slightly slick mouthfeel and low carbonation. Just a slight hint of alcohol in the sweet finish.

Bottle received as extra in trade. Thank you stoutnick! Pours hazy caramel brown with no head worth mentioning. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, toffee, raisins, prunes, leather, hay, charred wood, vanilla fudge, grape juice, alcohol and caramelized almonds. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter and malty with caramel, toffee, cocoa powder, honey, alcohol, vanilla fudge, raisins in rum, prunes, dates, alcohol, grape juice, hay, charred wood and toasted coconut. Mouthfeel is round, sticky sweet, boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet, tiny bitter and malty with caramel, toffee, charred wood, hay, vanilla fudge, raisins in rum, prunes, hay and sweet dark bread. Almost over the top tasty malt bomb!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a cloudy, muddy orange/brown with just a little off white head. Nose is honey, brandy, toffee, sweet wine, cinnamon, slightly fruity. Flavor is very sweet and honeyed, lots of spicy clove and cinnamon, some vanilla, wine notes, very smooth, honey finish. The fact that a beer this drinkable and delicious is 14.6% abv is astonishing. This is a monumental achievement, and I wish I had more bottles.

Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Josh for this beer, relieved to find it is a beer and not a porno flick he picked up in Copenhagen! Very hazy brown beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and semi dry. Nice toffee malt with caramel and coconut. Little vanilla and biscuit and tangy fruits. Touch of cherry. Finishes light and spicy. A winner!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle shared for Josh’s farewell fiesta. Thanks to Josh himself for this one, pours hazy golden-brown with a frothy white head. Old wood on the nose, some dry toffee, aged fruits. Medium sweet flavor with rich malt character, more toffee, alcohol, honey, dates, figs. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with definite aged character, more toffee and honey, rich bread, dry wood. Lots of complexity here. Punchy and wonderful.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to J-Dogg. It pours murky deep brown with a minimal beige heard. The nose is brown bread, fruit cake, raisin, candied peel, honey, wood and brown sugar. The taste is rich, juicy, fruit cake, plummy, faint vinous, wood, grape peel, toffee, wood, plum skin and earth with a dry finish. Medium-full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth feel. Nice depth. Solid.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle Pours a thick amber colour, with some, if little head. The smell is immediately very sweet, caramel orientated with other sweet flavours in there. You can get a whiff of the wine if you smell again, but the locus of the wine becomes easier after your first sip. The hops are definitely overridden by the malt in this one, a great, sweet barley wine, which did go down very auspiciously with brie and fig jam, and which I would describe as a dessert beer. The taste enters very sweetly into the palate, a kind of visceral effect of eating sticky date pudding eventuates, but this becomes quite ostensibly overridden by the liquid taste of sweet, delicious beer, red wine, shiraz?, pinot?, caramel, hops and honey. The concatenation of the ingredients presides over just over 14% alcohol. Take your time on this one and you will enjoy it. The alcoholic content is delightful.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours murky brown with a small head.
Nose shows rich sweet syrupy malt with some soft oxidative notes, a little booze, gingerbread, spicy phenols and a red wine note. Lovely.
Sweet flavours. Oxidative notes, brown sugar, woody notes, soft tannins and a strong port character. Some booze but it’s reasonable well integrated.
Nice syrupy body and light carbonation.
