3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 330ml bottle on 27/1/2013. Pours a cloudy medium golden with just the barest hint of a head. The aroma is primarily stone fruits with a touch of fermented apple. The flavour is big, with more stone fruits (apricot and peach), a touch of tropical fruit (pineapple), with a sharp citric bitterness which lingers. The body is full and the carbonation medium. Notwithstanding the advertising blurb, this presents as every bit of 7.1%. A very good beer.

Moon Dog – Love Tap
First of all the Definition of “Love Tap” - A light punch, performed in an almost-friendly manner.
Without any doubt Moon Dogs second iteration of the “Love Tap Lager” lives up to the definition with the epitome of a citrus infused wholesome lager!
Pours well with a good head and much clarity.
Hoppy on the middle palate with a slight hint of bitter at the throat.
Nearly at IPA level but the smoothness defines this Brew as a Lager! Lager! Lager!
I digress but what continues to astound me with Moon Dog is their carbonation. Always having so much pop!!
Sunny BBQ afternoons is where this brew is at. Come to think of it anytime you think suitable.
Consistently a good Beer from a consistently good Brewery…

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle. 5.9% abv. Pours an opaque gold colour with an enormous, off-white, loosely packed head which settled to a long lasting 2mm layer and left a nice ring of lace. Aroma of tropical fruit, grapefruit and moscato. Mild sweetness and mild bitterness. Light to medium bodied, smooth texture that is a little on the thin side, slight fizz on the tongue and a lingering medicinal bitterness in the finish. 6.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nice east drinking beer. Some nice bitterness up front that gives way to soft sweet malt backbone. Hop flavour is fruity and herbal. Not a bad wee beverage.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Cellarbrations Victoria park. Puts clear Amber with more carbonation than expected. Nice malty backbone with a herbal slightly hoppy finish with carbonation on the tip of the tongue. Solid without being extraordinary

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle) Hazy golden with big loose off-white head. Very pleasant aroma - caramel with fresh fruits - citrus and pineapple - maybe a buttery hint the background. Medium body with lots of carbonation, maybe a tad too much. The taste is unusual, and to me does not really work. The start is pleasant, fresh, fruity over some soft light caramel sweetness. This all sort of gets lost in the mid palate - it’s not that it lacks flavour here just that it’s rather confused. Then a big aggressive bitterness appears and hangs around a long time. It seems a bit confused too - in part it has some refreshing crisp aspects, but it also has some harsh aspects. Overall, an interesting experiment, but not one that could really be called a success.

1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20
Poorly fermented with off flavours and poor fermentation flavours dominating the flavour profile.
Would be a great beer if properly fermeted but seems to be their signature that they need to sort out if they want to survive.

Okay but not in the same hopped-up league as, say, Mikkeller American Dream. Has an old-world noble mineral herbal hops edge and the new-world fruity hop edge which is just a bit too weird a mix for me. Neither a thirst quencher nor can I can drink much of it - didn’t hate it and at least it’s better than Feral’s Hopfen Fhart which also tries to do something similar by mixing old and new world (albeit in the IPA style).

I didn’t realise lagers could be this good, although calling it a lager is under selling it. The aroma includes dates, aniseed, grapefruit and toffee. There’s enough malt to make it chewable as well as a good dose of hops to stop it from being too cloying
