2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle@ahven. Amber hazy murky. Sweet dark malty nose with aged fruits, some booze. Old murky oak. Fullbodied, and well bittered. Barley wine- like dense caramels, homebrewy yeastyness. Well bittered but still way too full&sweet for a dipa. The boozyness and murky oak doesn’t go well for me either.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle(Hilpa Hauki, Helsinki)
Viscous pour, hazy orange. Nice fruity aroma at first, some pleasant woodiness too. Smoothish palate, but crisp carbonation. Sweetish palate, a little sticky. Slips down easily, not aggressive, but definitely not pulling its punches either. Malts are big and sweet, hops are bold and fruity. Finish mostly predictable after that, but that’s not a bad thing. Some bitter bite too. Yeah, didn’t mind having this all to myself.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20131001) The beer poured amber and hazy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had cognac and malts. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, wood, cognac, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, woody, hoppy and bitter. A gimmick and not a good one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clear orange/amber with a small amount of off white head that fades quickly.
Nose is fairly typical for a double IPA, with lots of grapefruit, general citrus, some pine, and just a hint of booze. There’s a little bit of sweetness from the malt, but not much.
Taste is really wonderful. There’s some hops in the mix, but they’re not over the top. Grapefruit and citrus on the attack, with some pineyness in there and a great does of vanilla and cognac from the barrel ageing. Finish is moderately bitter with a creamy vanilla flavour.
Body is medium with a sticky, syrupy mouthfeel and low carbonation that adds to this effect.
Interesting and tasty, but this doesn’t blow me away.
