Commercial Description:
Don't be afraid of the dark! We brew this smooth black ale in the tradition of Irish-style Dry Stout. A creamy, yet light-bodied beer, with a big roasted barley flavor. Despite it's dark color and full flavor it is one of our lightest bodied brews. This version is flavored with black cherries in the secondary fermentation vessel.

hand pump-light brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-lots of coffee/some chocolate. Taste is bitter, dark malt-lots of coffee/some chocolate, acidic. Not my style.

Hand pumped cask, pint glass. Comes served pleasingly cool but not cold. Deep black body with brown edges under scrutiny and a moderate, lasting, creamy dark tan head. Enticing aromas of unsweetened chocolate, dark roasted coffee, a touch of molasses, supple black cherries, delicate floral/herbal hops, wet tobacco and a vague mineral tone. A rich blen of coffee- and fruit-cakes comes to mind. The cherry flavor is quite sublte; more of a compliment than a theme. Starts with a bittersweet chocolate flavor with a slight tartness. Cherries are exposed mid-palate along with the beginnings of a pleasnt but mild floral hop bite. Finishes with roasty-bitter coffee notes and some tannin qualities. Not astringent in the least. Medium bodied with a watery but mineral rich texture. Pleasantly coating--the flavors linger on eternally. Delicate carbonation. Comes together quite well--just wish it was a little creamier and more roasty.
