Don’t be afraid of the dark! We brew this smooth black ale in the tradition of Irish-Style Dry Stout. A Creamy, yet light-bodied beer, with a big roasted barley flavor.
Moon River earned four medals at the 2005 Georgia Craft Brew Challenge hosted by Georgians for World-Class Beer. On Nov. 5, more than 200 lucky people packed the Biergarten at Atlanta’s 5 Seasons Brewing Company to taste the best beers made in Georgia. During the blind judging session, judges evaluated 35 beers and deemed:

On tap at the brewery. Pours black with a light tan head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma and taste of fresh roast coffee, milk chocolate, roasted caramel malts, slightly bitter earthy hops. Dry finish of coffee, chocolate, and caramel malts. Medium bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation. One of the better Irish stouts I’ve ever had. Crisp and refreshing on a hot, humid Georgia day.

On tap @ Moon River / Savannah GA --- Opaque dark brown, thick tan rim head, sheets of lace. Taste is bitter coffee/chocolate and roasted malt, in that order. It expands in the palate, but needs no further battering for balance. Already bitter enough. A lot of taste for 4.6abv.

On tap at Moon River. Pours black with a thin light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, peanut butter, roasted coffee. Mmm, great aroma. Flavor starts off with roasted/burnt malt with a finish of chocolate and roasted nuts, light coffee. Delicious dry stout! Great flavor profile with aroma slightly better than flavor. 8/4/7/4/14 (3.7/5)

Pint at the bar. Dark, really dark. The roasted malts are what this beer is about. Malt builds in the aftertaste. Coffee and nutty. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the brewpub. Poured very dark with a small tan head that left a bit of lacing. Aroma was some coffee and roast malt. Flavor was coffee, a bit of chocolate, a bit of toffee, mild bitterness, very dry. Mouthfeel was quite thin -- a little too watery for me. But the flavor was dead on. Best beer I tried at Moon River.

Deep black with thin tan head... Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee... Flavor is shockingly thin, expected more, but fairly complex with notes of bitterness from dark chocolate and coffee elements... This would be an amazing beer if it weren’t so watery and thin...

Ratings by Veeve, Back by Popular Demand, on Vacay in the lovely Savannah, Georgia. This beer is found on tap at the MoonRiver restaurant and brewing site on Bay Street in Savannah, GA. milke chocolate, coffee, subtle-balanced flavors. soft-velvety mouth feel. A WINNER. bitter-acidic aftertaste. A good example of its kind. Definately try it. Leave the amber and the brown and have the porter and the stout.

Dark ruby, big tan nitro head, dry roasted malt aroma and flavor, too much burnt malt bitterness in the finish

On tap 3/17: Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aromas are filled with coffee and roasted malts with hints of chocolate. Flavor is roasty with hints of coffee and chocolate in the dry finish. Enjoyable and warmed me up on a cold St. Patrick’s Day morning in Savannah.
