The aroma was roasty with an acidic chocolate and fruity nature. Some caramel was notable in the background, but the beer was a bit winey in the nose. The beer arrived blackish brown with a beige lasting head which laced the glass. The flavor was chocolate, dark chocolate, with a dry acidity and caramel. The flavor was fruity and had a nice level of bittering but no appreciable sweetness or hop flavor. The body was medium with a low level of carbonation. The finish was dry with a lightly acidic chocolate into the aftertaste. A good porter without any alcohol presence despite being 7%. Pint at the brewpub.

GABF. Black pour. Roasty bitter even in the aroma. Some coffee, but somewhat watered down. Average

4 oz. sample. Pours a deep, dark brown with khaki-colored bubbly head. Aroma of chocolate with espresso notes. Sweet, smooth mouthfeel with nice chocolate flavors. Malt backbone with a hint of bitterness at the finish line. My favorite beer of the night.

Can’t find any notes on this one - only numbers. Had this at 2005 Classic City Brew Fest.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a small, khaki-colored head. Smell: Overall weak aroma with a thin amount of chocolate to it and little else. Taste: Altogether light flavor of chocolate, malty sweetness, and a mildy roasty finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Though gauged appropriately for the Savannah crowd, I could’ve used a bit more depth of flavor as well as body.

Draft at the Asheville Brewgrass Festival. This beer recieved my vote for the best beer at the festival. It was soft and refreshing with nice espresso and dark chocolate aromas and flavors, and had a slightly bitter and dry finish. Cool brewer, the rep sold me a Moon River frisbee for a buck... yeah

Draught at the brewpub. Brown/black pour, creamy tacky head. Nose of chocolate, coffee, licorice and sweet malts. Flavor is chocolate, with a sweet malt backbone and some nice coffee notes at the end. Light to medium bodied, semi sticky mouthfeel. Finish is medium length and lightly bitter. Decent.
