Our porter is a full-bodied, semi-sweet dark ale, with distinct notes of caramel and chocolate. Brewed in the loving memory of our Brew masterís grandfather, the Captain.

Draught sample at the brewpub. Very nearly opaque black with rustic mahogany transparency at the glass-side, lasting ring of dark foam....lovely roasty dark grains, bitter chocolate balanced with sweet grainy cocoa, vanilla and a bare hint of brandy in the aroma....body doesnít hold to the promise of the nose, though it is serviceable, with lots of toasty grain, a bit of chocolate and robust grapy sweetness, but somewhat on the thin side all the way through, really quite weak and watery to finish. Sigh, almost...

(On tap) Dark mahogany with a reddish glow and a creamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose. Medium-bodied, lightly sweet, hard roasted malt with a vague edge of chocolate. Almost no bitterness. A soft, pleasant Porter. 010406

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2006 Aroma is faintly roasty with lots of molasses and hints of brown sugar. Brown with reddish tints and a decent, but fading mocha head. More of the molasses and brown sugar...more slight roastiness. Gets a touch cloying witht he brown sugar notes, but finished dry and approachable.

Reddish black, tan head. Coffee and blueberry (?) aroma. Huge coffee flavors thoughout, with an appealling dry finish. This one is straghtforward and uncomplicated, but tasty. Sampled at the 2005 Asheville Brewerís Jam.

Draft at brewpub. A good looking Porter. Poured a dark brown body with a small medium brown head. A little bakers chocolate in the nose. Somewhat dry chocolate malt and vanilla flavor with a little carmel. Thicker mouthfeel than it first appeared and somewhat oily. Pretty good Porter.

On Draft at Jacksonvilleís Follio Weekly Beer and Music Fest. Poured a dark brown to black color with a small, creamy, light brown head. Dark chocolate and caramel aroma. Sweet flavor with lots of chocolate. Full creamy body. Best beer of the Fest!

Had this one on tap at the Classic City Brewfest in Athens GA. This starts with a diminished head on a transparent brown body. Some chocolate in the aroma. The flavor starts with some light malt sweetness and moves to a slightly tangy finish. Overall it was a little thin and underdone. Almost there.

Pours dark nut brown to black with a nice tan head and good lacing. Chocolate and caramel aromas, somewhat nutty nose. Sweet chocolate flavor with a caramel sweetness to the finish. Dark and creamy palate.
