dolemike1 (1116), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 10, 2002 After a long drive in the car towards the misnamed Sunshine state we decided to stop for dinner in lovely Savannah. As we drove through the downtown my passengers proceeded to read off the names of all the different restaurants and bars. As soon as someone said ’Moon River Restaurant and Brewery’ the car was parked and we proceeded towards the brewery. It was a good choice. The Captain’s Porter is the first beer i have had that my girlfriend almost ordered after i let her try some, not counting a handful of lambics. This was a sweet chocolate flavored brew that was extremely refreshing. I was surprised that it had so much flavor for it appeared to be somewhat thin and watery. It was Dark brown in color with a small head. Truly a surprise to find a beer this good. I only wish that i had had more time to stay there and sample more of their beers. Oh yeah, and the food was great too. Mads Langtved (2246), Copenhagen K, Denmark Jun 21, 2004 Draight at Moon River:
This is exactly my kind of porter. Balance between bitterness and sweetness mastered to perfection. Sweet aftertaste.

This beer is found on tap at the MoonRiver restaurant and brewing site on Bay Street in Savannah, GA. This beer was my 2nd favorite personally but obviously objectively the best beer among the 7 beers of the sampler they were offering yesterday 5/22/08 and likely among all their beers as it is strikingly impressive. The description of this beer on the menu said: "Close your eyes, take a sip and think chocolate. Case in point - not all dark beers have to be sharp and bitter. Don’t be afraid of the dark." Well I AM CERTAINLY NOT AFRAID OF THE DARK. This beer is fantastic. Though it is bitter (despite the menu’s description), especially towards the finish, and in the aftertaste, it blends in perfectly with the overall balance of all the flavors and is not overwhelming. It has good lacing, two parallel lines broken up in light weak paisleys. good darker brown ring around the rim. dark brown sugar/coke hue. milk chocolate, coffee, bitterness. delicious. Hance07 (192), DownSouth, Georgia, USA Mar 2, 2008 Pours a dark brown with good sized tan head. Aroma is roasted malt. Flavor is a roasted malt with a long creamy finish. Absolutely fabulous porter. If i lived near Savannah I would drink this all the time. hurleymanvw (101), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Sep 15, 2004 Dark beer, very strong nice porter. perfect balance of sweet and bitter. Smoke aroma.....hint of fruit and very smooth. Good beer
stison42 (318), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Mar 19, 2007 Black. No aroma to speak of. Nice clean chocolatey taste with a good medium body. Had at Moon River Brewery in Savannah. hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 2, 2004 Updated: Feb 12, 2007Draft... This beer rocks!... Sparkling clear, ruby ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Brussels lacing.
Vanilla, milk chocolate, alcohol, smoke and coffee in the aroma and flavor.
Full-bodied with a very creamy mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Medium-length, bittersweet, dry finish. Excellent beer! TheRimmer (483), Florida, USA Mar 2, 2003 Aroma may be kind of nil, but possibly the best beer from these guys. Smelled of light burnt porter offerings. Tasted of coffees, bittersweet/burnt chocolate, maybe some molasses. Gives that smokey kind of mouth feel and impression. Amazing lace. If the score seems low for the raving i give it, its because the aroma was lacking.
